Chapter 83 by Duskford Duskford

What does Ashley want? Or let's look at another place first?

A car arrives at the cabin across the lake

A pair of green eyes glanced at the rearview mirror of his car and its owner grinned before looking back at the road. Peter Zander missed his old high school friends, even now at twenty-one and just a little more than a year shy of graduating at college, he still tried to do everything in his power to reunite the old gang whenever he was back at Azure Rocks. Sure, sometimes there was one or two of them that wasn’t in town, such as his best friend Will, who decided to stay at the town he currently lived to study during that week of Spring Break.

”Such a shame that other places don’t have two weeks of Spring Break like Azure Rocks,” He lamented, before he sneaked another glance at the backseat through the rearview mirror. ”At least Hannah was able to come.”

Beautiful, blue-eyed Hannah Woodsen, her long golden hair cascaded around her head and down to a few inches past her shoulders. Three years ago, Peter and Hannah dated briefly during their senior year, but she broke up with him after a few weeks, claiming that it wasn’t working and that she saw him only as a friend. Despite being heartbroken, Peter saw no other way but accept her decision, however, he could never fully let go of his feelings for her, this being the reason that his subsequent relationships didn’t work out.

Hannah was sitting between two other girls. At her left, staring at the passing scenery through the open window was Taylor Bishop, Hannah’s best friend. With long, wavy dark brown hair that went down to the middle of her back and sparkling blue eyes, Taylor was the kindest of them all. She and Peter always did school projects together when they were in high school and she was the one who helped him get back on his feet after the break up with Hannah, cheering him on.

At Hannah’s right was sitting Kendra Mackenzie, the geek of the group. Her hair was long, straight and brown, the same color of her eyes. When they were in high school, Kendra was always short tempered, often snapping at others for no reason. That changed a little when she started dating Shawn Lewis, she became a bit more carefree and amiable after that. Their relationship lasted through all senior year and ended when they decided to break up before going to college. Unlike Hannah and Taylor, who were twenty-one, Kendra was still twenty, her birthday coming up in a couple of weeks.

Squeezed at Kendra’s right, looking bored as hell, was Shawn Lewis. Leaning his short, messy mop of black hair against the window, his dark brown eyes were almost closed. Shawn always had been one of those guys who had a problem of inflated ego, he was so full of himself that Peter could never consider him too much of a friend, he was very surprised when Kendra started dating the guy. Shawn’s family moved out of Azure Rocks about eight months ago, so this was the first time he was coming back to visit his hometown, all of his other breaks having been spent at where his family currently lived.

Finally, at Peter’s right, travelling on the passenger’s seat was their last minute addition, Shawn’s younger brother, Dustin. According to Shawn, his nineteen year old brother went berserk when he heard that his older brother was coming to visit Azure Rocks and begged to come along. From what Peter was able to gather, Dustin had an ex-girlfriend that he wanted to visit in town and, when he went to her house, he was told by the girl’s parents that she had gone with her friends to a cabin around the Silver Lake area.

”Very convenient,” Peter chuckled mentally. ”Maybe he won’t have too much trouble finding her.”

He was so lost inside his memories of the past that Peter almost missed a turn on the road. Glad that he came to his senses in time, he drove for a few more minutes before the cabin they had rented came into view.

“Cool,” Hannah said, sticking her head between the two front seats. “We’re finally here!”

“Dammit, Hannah,” Kendra complained. “We’re already squeezed back here without you jumping around.”

“Sorry.” The blonde apologized, sheepishly.

The movement caused by her sitting down again made Shawn stir on his seat, stopping him from falling asleep. “What happened?” He asked, a little drowsily.

“We’ve arrived.” Kendra replied.

“Great, I was almost falling asleep here.” Shawn rubbed his eyes.

“This place sure is gorgeous.” Taylor commented in her trademark raspy voice as Peter parked the car in front of the cabin.

“Ok,” He said cheerfully. “Let’s take a look at the inside?”

There were nods and shouts of approval before they got out of the car and Peter, Taylor and Dustin started getting everyone’s suitcases and bags from the trunk. Soon, the six of them were standing in front of the large two-story wooden cabin.

It had been built on a slope, so the entrance was at the upper floor, with the lower one being accessible only from the inside. Peter fished the keys out of his pocket and walked over to the door, unlocking it.

What's the first thing they do inside?
