Chapter 1
by Chicklet
I awoke in a cold cell, the cement floor feeling like ice on my naked skin. Shivering I curled into a tight fetal position, trying to keep some of the warmth from completely abandoning my body. My senses seemed dulled, my body intently concentrating on breathing and moving the blood through my body. It was all I cared about anymore, just staying alive. I had no idea where I was, or why exactly I was there. All I knew is that there was no escape.
The sound of a door opening. The pat, pat of footsteps making their way closer to my tiny cell. I pushed my head closer to my chest, hugging myself and shutting my eyes tight, trying to block the horrible reality out.
My ordeal had begun a week ago, when I was walking home from work. The part of town I lived in was not the best, and my route home not the safest one could imagine. I passed many dark abandoned buildings and usually one or two junkies, but all I had to do was keep my head forward and walk towards home with a purpose and nothing bad would happen. In fact I was concentrating so intently on walking straight home that I didn't notice the van following me close, or when it sped up and drove beside me. I just kept looking forward and thinking of home.
"Miss," a man's voice had come through the dark, from the van. I hadn't stopped, just looked over at him. "I wonder if you could point me towards the downtown center?"
He hadn't looked like anyone to be afraid of. A sort of pudgy man, balding on the top. He had thick glasses, and thick lips. Nothing that a girl walking the streets alone would fear.
"Sure," I said, pausing. "You head down Main Street for a while and you have to turn on Oak. It's tricky because it's a one-way street..." and at that moment someone had grabbed me from behind. While the man in the van had distracted me his accomplice had come from behind and wrapped his arms around me. Before I could struggle I felt a needle prick my arm, and while I screamed through the big hand covering my mouth he had dragged me into the back of the van. Before I could fight back I was losing consciousness, whimpering as I was finally **** to close my eyes and embrace the darkness. I had awoken in this cell.
"She's down here," I heard a man's voice say, and the footsteps came ever closer. They stopped in front of the door.
