Your name is Jon Doe. You never knew your parents. The nuns who raised you said that they were farmers who died in a random house fire. The sort of thing that just happens sometimes in a world where most people rely on fire for warmth, light, and cooking.
The nuns were nice, but when you turned 18 they said you had to make a choice. Leave, or become a monk. It was **** really. You'd never talked to a girl other than the nuns, and all you knew of sex came from watching stray dogs rut in the street, but a lifetime of abstinence seemed unbearable. So you packed up everything you owned (a change of clothes, a pocket knife, and a silver Sovereign) and walked out the front door in search of your future.
The Nunnery is in the middle of the woods. The narrow dirt road in front of it stretches from east to west beyond the horizon.
