Jessica Summers was looking for fresh start. Having lost her job at her mother’s company, she decided to go out on her own and start her own auto-shop repair store. She was able to find some investors, albeit with a bit of help, and all she needed was the right place to set up shop. That is when things got hard.

Apparently, Jess couldn’t just set up an auto shop wherever she wanted. She had to find somewhere that has enough space, isn’t too out of the way, and complies with the town’s zoning laws. Finding somewhere that fit all those criteria was a nightmare. Jess’s sister, Carly, could have assisted or even her mom given that they bought and sold real estate for a living. All Jess would have needed to do is swallow her pride and ask for help. She refused to do that.

That might seem odd considering Jess's investors were technically helping but all they were doing was putting up cash. She was the one running the business. Nobody was helping with anything important which was fine because she didn’t need help from anyone! That was what she told herself, at least.

Jess struggled with the frustrating reality of real estate on her own till she finally found the perfect place. It was a beach-side warehouse that was also not far from downtown. There was plenty of room for repairs, lots of traffic, and the building complied with all the necessary laws. It was on the other side of town but she had a car; it was fine.

All that was left was to meet with the owner and sign the lease. The owner insisted they discuss the lease over dinner; she was very selective with her renters and only did business with people she thought were professional enough. Jess agreed and decided that since she was going to be out there anyway she might as well make a beach day out of it. Her cop girlfriend, Melissa, asked if it was a good idea to be relaxing on the beach before an important business meeting but Jess waved her off.

On the day of, Jess drove out to the beach in the morning. Her appointment wasn’t till that evening so she could relax until then. Once she arrived, Jess set herself up on the beach. She settled down on her towel the warm sun shining down on her. As she closed her eyes, beginning to drift off, she thought to herself, “This is fine; Melissa was overreacting. What could possibly go wrong?”
