they’re coloring pages

Lauren sat down at her desk and pulled the first paper in front of her. Her eyes widened as it was a black outline of a unicorn… a coloring page. As Lauren looked at the pile, they were all coloring pages. Her jaw locked as she saw puppies, muppets, Winnie the Pooh, but they were all coloring pages.

“Jennifer!” Lauren called out. “What is this?!”

Jennifer peered inside and smiled. “I thought it would be appropriate for you considering you can barely file a paper correctly. I can’t trust you with any of the important tasks so you’ll do this instead. I expect at least half of the stack to be colored by the time your day is done. If that’s too hard for you we can always practice your shapes.”

Jennifer held up a box with a square, circle, and triangle hole in them. Lauren glared. “How am I supposed to color this?!”

“There’s a box of washable markers in the drawer on your right,” Jennifer said.

Lauren opened the drawer to see a huge box with about 50 different colors. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” Lauren said.

“You could color with crayons instead,” Jennifer said. “They’re on your left.”

Lauren opened the left drawer where she saw a box of crayons with only 6 colors. Lauren’s face burned with anger and embarrassment as Jennifer’s head disappeared behind her door.
