Your mom's work anniversary

"Dawn, are you almost ready?" you called from the living room.

"Almost" your baby sister called back.

"Urgh, women" you said under your breath.

"What was that?"Rebecca asked. You smirked as you turned to her.

"You know what I said" you told her.

"Just because we want to look our best for mom's big day, we're inconveniencing you? They'll wait for mom to get there, you know" Rebecca replied.

"That's still kind of rude, though" you said.

"They'll wait" your big sister insisted before looking up at Dawn when she came out. "Looking good, honey" she said.

"You don't think it's too much?" Dawn asked, looking a little uncertain.

"You look good, sweetheart" your mom said. When she appeared from her room she was smiling.

"So do you mom, damn" Rebecca said. "Are you going to celebrate your work anniversary or getting us a new dad?"

"Either or" your mom said with a grin.

"Damn, mom" you said, laughing. "You look like you're going out hunting."

"Thanks guys, you are too kind. Now come on, they're waiting for us" she told you. Shooting your big sister an 'I told you so' look, you took the lead and led the way to your mom's car, the biggest and roomiest car you had at home.

"Maria, it's so nice to see you" a woman said as your mom led your family into a large lunch room that had been turned into a festive place for the occasions.

"You too, Kira" your mom told the woman who was smiling at her. You couldn't help but stare.

"Damn" Rebecca whispered.

"You said it" you replied.

"She's mine" your sister told you.

"Alright, alright, you go try" you said, grinning.

"Hello there, you must be Maria's kids" Kira said as she turned her attention to the three of you.

"We are" Rebecca said. She extended her hand and introduced herself as Kira shook it.

"John" you said, giving her a smile.

"Dawn" your baby sister said with her usual shining smile.

"It's nice to meet all of you" Kira said. "You have a place of honour next to your mom. You ready, Maria?" she asked, turning to her.

"Yep, ready" your mom said. And so the five of you followed Kira through the room towards a sitting area closed off with those velvet ropes they'd have in cinemas or theatres.

"Oh, wow" Dawn said, "look at us, sitting in the VIP area."

"I feel fancy, don't you?" Rebecca asked you.

"Hell yeah" you replied, laughing. You sat down, after helping your mom and sisters get seated of course, then looked around.

"All this for you, huh?" Dawn asked, giving voice to your own thoughts.

"Apparently so. They think 25 years for a company is big enough to give me a huge party" your mom told you.

"You deserve it, mom" Rebecca said. As your mom and sisters got into a conversation, you looked around and scoped out the workers. If your sister wanted to get with Kira, you'd see what else there was to see.
