Someone comes up to your mom

You were just minding your own business, nursing your beer and looking around when a young woman approached your mom.

"Maria, do you have a second?" she asked. You looked at her and saw a gorgeous young woman. She was slender, almost thin, pretty tall, with dark hair and incredibly long legs. Her skin was the colour of creamed coffee and she had almsot no breasts to speak of. Yet she surely caught your attention. Everything about her told you she was confident, something that you liked in a woman.

"Cadence, please. You don't have to work right now. It's my work anniversary. Sit down, have something to eat" your mom replied. "Have you met my kids?"

"Oh no, mom's going to try and set you up with this girl" Dawn whispered in your ear.

"Based on looks I wouldn't say no" you told your sister, "but for all I know she's a massive bitch."

"So? Go for it" Dawn teased.

"Do you love me so little?" you asked.

"Hey, if she is a bitch, you'll be the one stuck with her, not me" your baby sister told you.

"Then I and my massive bitch of a wife will come visit you as much as we can" you said. "I'm not going to let you off the hook."

"Oh no" Dawn said.

"That's not all, though. I'm going to have as many kids with her as I can so you'll have to babysit them the entire time" you added. "And I'll ask mom not to jump in, so you'll be all alone fending off five annoying brats."

"You wouldn't!" Dawn told you. "Ruin your kids intentionally just to get back at me, I mean. I totally can see you having many kids with that chick."

"How shallow you are" you told her.

"Shut up, Yoda" Dawn giggled. "Oh, she's coming towards us."

"Guys? This is one of my PR girls" your mom said. "Cadence, meet my youngest daughter Dawn and my son, John. Guys, this is Cadence."

"Nice to meet you" Dawn said sweetly.

"And you, Dawn, John" Cadence replied.

"You too, Cadence" you said.

"Now that you're acquainted, you can have a chat. You're not working any more tonight, Cadence" your mom told her.

"Are you sure?" the brunette asked.

"Positive. Relax for once, Cadence. It's my party and I'll make you dance if I want to" your mom said.

"Do I have to?" Cadence asked.

"Well, you don't have to dance, but you really do need to take it easy" Maria said. "Consider it an order."

"You can't order me around, though" Cadence pointed out.

"No, but I can tell you what to do" your mom replied. "Which isn't quite the same, but I want you to take it easy tonight, okay?"

"Alright" Cadence said, looking from your mom to Dawn then to you. She sat down across from you and Dawn, sighing.

"What's up?" Dawn asked.

"There's something that needs to be done but your mom won't hear it" Cadence said.

"Yeah, that's our mom for you. Best you just give in and listen to her" you told the pretty young woman. "Just let it happen."

"Is that your best advice?" the chocolate cutie said.

"Oh, yeah. That's pretty much it. Just go with the flow, you won't win it" Dawn said. "You might as well just let me get you a drink."

"Eh, might as well. Make it **** free, though. I still have to drive" Cadence said.

A little later you were sitting with Cadence, sipping from your beer and talking to her. You were alone now as your mom was making the rounds and Dawn was talking to Rebecca elsewhere.

"So do you like it here?" you asked her.

"Yeah, it's pretty cool. I'm still getting used to the informality, though" Cadence told you.

"How come?" you said.

"I started working here a month ago and they're way more casual here than where I used to work. I would have had to call your mom "miss Doe" at the other place. I mean, I like it, don't get me wrong, but it's a big change" Cadence explained.

"Yeah, I get it" you said, nodding. "Still, as long as you like it, right?"

"Yeah, it could be worse" Cadence replied, nodding. "So what's your story?"

"Oh, you know. Former student, just graduated, **** to be here" you explained.

"Your mom?" she asked.

"Yep. I mean, it's not all bad. There's some nice people here" you said.

"Sure, not everybody here is terrible" Cadence said. "Listen, I really should get going. It was nice meeting you."

"Going to try and get some work done after all?" you asked.

"If I don't, who will?" the brunette replied.

"I'm sure somebody will" you said, "but needs must and all that."

"You got it. See you another time" Cadence said before getting up. She also said goodbye to the others before leaving. You watched her go.

"Uh oh, I know that look" Dawn said.

"No you don't" you told her.

"Isn't that the look of you being in love?" Dawn teased.

"It really isn't. I mean, yeah, she is easy on the eyes, but she's a workaholic. I'm not sure I'm into those" you said, shrugging.

"Well, if you won't, maybe Rebecca will" Dawn teased.

"She's still with Mona, you little weirdo" you said.

"Guess you'll have to go for her, then" your baby sister said with a grin.

"Shut up, kiddo" you said. Dawn stuck her tongue out at you. "Just so you know, I don't literally want to date every pretty girl I see."

"Just have sex with them?" Dawn asked.

"You're too young for that kind of talk" you said.

"I'm going to college soon" Dawn said.

"So? That doesn't mean you're going to end up having sex with everyone...does it?" you asked. "You better not" you added.

"Nah, probably not. I mean, I know I'm attractive, but I'm not going to just give it up for just any boy who looks at me" Dawn assured you.

"Good" you said, "that's what I like to hear. Mom'll be happy to hear that, too."

"Wait, you've already had sex, so what makes you any different?" Dawn asked.

"I'm not an adorable young woman nor the baby sister" you said, smiling. "I'm just looking out for you."

"Thanks" Dawn told you with a smile. "I don't really like the double standard but you mean well so I'll roll with it."

"Thanks for understanding" you said with a laugh, hugging her tight. After that conversation you forgot of Cadence for a while.
