You want to spend time with Jane, not change her

"Sure, you can keep doing everything you do," you say, not wanting to change what makes Jane, Jane. "Let's just say... a couple times a week, if we're not busy, swing by my house first when you go on a run so I can do it with you."

Jane breathes a sigh of relief. "Phew, thanks, you’re a lifesaver. Oh - and you bet, next time I go for a run, I'll pick you up first for sure. " But then she makes a face, puzzled. "Why didn't you ask first though? If you wanted to run with me that bad it’s not like you had to claim my whole routine."

"I guess I didn't want to be an inconvenience before," you admit.

It’s not really a good reason at all now that you think about it. It comes down to the awkwardness of asking. You have to admit it’s much easier to take something than it is to ask for it. No worrying about what would happen if your longtime crush said no.

But even if your reasoning isn’t good enough to fool yourself, it’s more than sufficient to fool Jane. "Ah, gotcha,” she says, as if this makes more than zero sense. “Now that it's your workout routine, you'll only be inconveniencing yourself. Well, and you’re still inconveniencing me, but it's not like I can really complain since it's literally your routine,” she reasons to herself, frowning. She shakes her head. “I'm just happy that I’m still a part of it. No idea what I’d do if I had to stop staying in shape."

“Appreciate your patience with this,” you say, giving her a friendly pat on the back. “I know it’s a lot all at once.”

If you tried this on Pearl, you’d probably have a black eye by now. Thank god Jane trusts you. Or at least, the way she perceives your power, at least it doesn’t hurt her trust that you just used it on her.

"Well I appreciate you letting me keep doing my thing," says Jane, brightly. "Oh. By the way. You wanna dance? I don't think I've seen you move all night."

You accept the invitation and join Jane, Yu, and Pearl on the dance floor.
