Chapter 57 by Corruption Corruption

Do you follow him, and what happens?

You follow him into the room.

Once inside he closes and seals the room. Both of you sit at the table in the middle

“If you haven’t real my details, which I doubt, my name is Halma. You have no idea of what you have started! We need you to work with us to sort out the problems you have mentioned, others you know and any others we find. All without letting everyone know more that they must.”

Surprise fills you for a moment. “I was expecting threats, bribery, and ****. This was unexpected.”

Halma snorted. “Threats? If we don’t sort things out then Arkus may be destroyed.”

“Tell me what is going on.”

Both of you were deadly serious.

Hamla asks you “What do you know about Arkus and the Gods?”

“Arkus was created by the Gods as a playground for the Players. They change things around for the enjoyment of the Players, and don’t give a fuck about those they created and call NPCs. The Players come from another plain of existence and exist in Arkus via possessing Avatars who are people designed to be their Hosts.

“The Gods also seem to be lazy, short sighted, perverted, and fail to grasp the consequences of their actions.”

Halma sighed. “All correct. I have to tell you the truth if you are to possibly help me.

“The Gods, Mods, and Players are all the same race from the same plane of existence. There are lots of people in the world, and there is massive overpopulation. Imagine a large town’s worth of people living in a small village’s area.

“Our, let’s call them mages for connivance sake, created a network that allowed knowledge to be transmitted all around the world almost instantly. Then we learned how to make illusions that people could access via the network, and share. People could meet in these shares illusion, or play game.

“Our mages learned how to make illusions that seemed alive and could even think for themselves. I think they were using their powers to scan the minds of people entering the illusions to study them without them knowing.

“And eventually they made came where people could go in illusions and interact with these illusionary people.”

You understand “And we NPCs are the illusions, with the Gods being the mages who created us.”

Halma nods slowly. He had a look of fear on his face as he knows it might drive you insane.

Is he right to worry?
