Chapter 16 by Trom1806 Trom1806

So what will you do now?

You decide that you need to try to help this girl.

There are fewer and fewer passers-by on the streets. Due to the evening time of day, it becomes darker outside.

You think that the customs of your tribe require you to help fellow tribesmen who are in trouble. Thoughts arise in your mind about how your grandfather, Elder Franklin, would have reacted to this situation.

It's not hard for you to guess, you assume: "Grandfather Franklin would probably give me a long and tedious lecture on the topic of mutual aid, responsibility and the collective interests of our tribe. And, I'm sure of it, he would quote many quotes from the Sacred Texts of the Spider to confirm his own positions."

While you are thinking, you see people walking along the streets of the city. Some of these persons carry firearms: pistols in holsters, which are usually located on the belt, shotguns, which are attached to a sling that is slung over the back. Probably some of these people are the guards of this city. But it is obvious to you that even ordinary citizens of this city can carry firearms.

Once you saw a car that was rapidly moving along the street in such a way that passers-by were **** to quickly jump to the sides of the road. You were very surprised that some of these ancient devices called “cars” have remained operational to this day. On this car, which quickly rushed past you, you saw people in strange armor and helmets. In the hands of these people were firearms that looked much more dangerous than anything you had seen in your life. However, this is not surprising. After all, the most powerful firearm you have seen so far is a double-barreled hunting rifle.

You also noticed the inscription on the doors of this car: “Angels of Liberty”.

All these observations prove the obvious fact: you will not be able to free this girl right now using ****. After all, you don’t have any firearms right now. All you have now is an iron dagger and a spear with a stone tip.

However, you do not give up the idea of the need to free this girl, who is a representative of your Spiderscars tribe.

You think that you will have to talk to the owner of this **** shop and you will have to use your persuasion skills.

The memory of a quote from the Sacred Texts of the Spider arises in your mind: “You can’t think about saving the world. You have to think about saving one person.” You understand that you cannot encroach on the order of this city alone. You only need to convince one person who has influence in order to resolve the issue that interests you.

So, you enter the store again next to a sign that says “Retail Store of Slaves: seasonal discounts!” You pass by many cells. You approach a large table near the far wall of this room. A fat man sits at this table, who is obviously the owner of this store. He is wearing a gray shirt and a leather vest. This man's skin is chiffon, he has no beard or mustache, and his hair is dark gray. There is little hair on his head: you can see a bald spot and a receding hairline.

The store owner looks at you with a contemptuous look from his gray eyes. He makes a gesture with the fingers of his left hand. One of the guards approaches the table.

The store owner tells you: “I’m a busy man. I don’t have much time for all this nonsense. Tell me what you need, savage?”

You feel some discomfort even from the sounds of this person’s bass voice. You hate to even look at him when the skin on his double chin moves as he talks. But you get over your feelings and try to speak politely.

You tell him: “Hello, sir. I would like to buy a **** girl who has the same scars on her left shoulder as me.”

You turn around and gesture to the very cage in which this girl is located.

The shopkeeper grins and says: “This **** is too wild and poorly trained. That's why her price is quite low. That's why her cost is only 200 crefs. Do you have that kind of money, savage?”

You are **** to say: “I don’t have that kind of money. But I can offer you something else as payment for this ****. I can do some work for you.”

You see the security guard leaning towards the store owner’s ear and whispering something. You can't make out the words. Soon the guard steps aside.

The store owner looks at you appraisingly and scratches his chin.

Then he says: "I have an important job for you. You will receive ownership of this **** if you do what is required. But I warn you right away, savage: this work will be difficult and require maximum effort."

You answer: “I agree. What exactly is required of me to do?”

The store owner says: “Come to this store tomorrow morning. You will find out the details at your destination.”

You nod and you leave this store.

You go to the northern quarter of the city. Thanks to Sebastian's explanations, you quickly find the Cozy Hearth Hotel. This hotel looks like a rather run-down, two-story building that consists of concrete blocks, wooden structures and the wreckage of ancient cars.

You walk inside this run-down building and you see an old woman standing at a high table. It is obvious that this woman is the owner of the inn. Next to her you see two tall men, whose faces are very similar to each other.

You come closer.

You don’t have time to say a word when the old woman says in a creaky voice: “If you need an overnight stay, pay 2 crefs!”

You give her a coin worth 10 crefs. You say, "I plan to stay in this city for a while. Take 5 days' rent."

The old woman takes the coin and immediately hides it somewhere.

She says to one of the two tall men: "Escort the guest to his room, Steve! And act quickly!"

Then she turns to the second tall man and says in a grumpy tone: “And you, too, don’t stand there like a pillar, Cliff! Night will soon fall! Go lock all the doors! And don’t forget to check the weapons!”

As you follow Steve to the second floor, you hear the second man answer the old woman: “Okay, I'll do everything, Mom.”

Steve opens one of the rooms on the second floor for you. You walk inside and see a dirty wooden floor, a wooden bed, several wardrobes with broken shelves and a couple of chairs made of a grayish material unknown to you. You touch these chairs and you understand that the material from which they are made is clearly not metal. This material is very light and not very durable.

However, you have no time to think about all the little things. You are tired and you lie down on the bed and quickly fall asleep.

What awaits you tomorrow?
