Chapter 13

How do you want to proceed?
You ask Jackie to cast a spell
“Jackie, you mentioned a sleeping spell,” you remember, “can we use that here?”
“No, I’m afraid it only works on targets who are calm,” Jackie whispers uncomfortable, “They are too excited because their disgusting manhandling of innocent woman. At least for my skill level. But … I could cast a spell that eliminates all sound in this area. If we are quick, we can take the out before one of the manages to sneak through the crack in the wall. But … this means we have to fight.”
You nod. You both managed to get very far without killing anybody. But in a fight against so much enemies, you can’t take that into account. Quiet you take you bow and long daggers from your backpack. Despite being a born predator, you are trained to use you bow for hunting and two simple daggers for self-defense. Jackie seems uncomfortable by the thought of raking someone else’s life, but she also knows that the victims are running out of time.
Jackie mumbles some words you can’t understand and draws a symbol in the air. The symbol suddenly glows in a purple light and from one second to the other, all sounds from the Rat Pack, the wind and every stone scratching over the floor goes complexly quiet. The Rat Pack takes a second to understand that something is going on. When they look around alarmed and search for the source of this unnatural silence, an arrow and a bright lightning bolt shoot out of the dark and hit two of their henchmen with deadly ****.
What follows is a kind of surrealistic fight. Everything happens without a single sound. The rats know where you are and you immediately face them with your daggers drawn. Two Rat Pack members focus on you, one on Jackie. The adrenaline in their blood makes them forget about their fear for a predator like you. The Rat Pack thugs are equipped with long knifes of minor quality. You are perfectly capable of blocking avoiding and attacking, even against two of them.
The first of your enemies goes down within about a minute. But the second one is not such a basic fighter like the others. He uses both his weapon and his leather armor on the arms to block your attacks and after a while he even manages to make a small cut at your hip. Not deep enough to be a real danger, but still a bleeding wound.
However, he already carries three much worse wounds from your daggers and they are slowing him down. In a moment when he is neglecting his cover, you deceive a stab and the next moment you hit him in the face with the handle of the other dagger. The rat stumbles and you use this for another attack. He loses his weapon and you quickly knock him out with a quick hit to the back of his head.
Jackie on your side has finished her opponent too. But she looks not good. She seems to have used a fire spell. You smell burned fur and see a burned corpse on the ground. Jackie has some burned spots in her fur too. Close to her hands. You assume she tried to put the fire off to save her opponents life, but failed to do so. She looks **** over this. You want to put your hand on her shoulder and comfort her, but suddenly she points behind you and moves her lips as if she would shout. But of course, you can’t hear her.
You spin around immediately and get ready to dodge or counterattack every possible attack. However, Jackies warning was not because of an attacking enemy. The Rat Pack member you defeated earlier is still alive and not as bad hurt as you thought. He used the distraction by his more skilled companion to crawl to towards the crack in the wall. With one of his hands pressed on his wound and not able to move really fast, he still made it to the crack and is already halfway through.
You need to act fast. Otherwise he will disappear and you are too big to follow him through the hole fast enough to stop him before he alarms his comrades. You can either throw one of your daggers to stop him or run towards him and try to grab him. The result is the same. If you are too slow or miss him, your element of surprise is gone.
So you want to use your dagger, your claws or something else?
