"I'll go with you," you say, extending a helping hand to the battered cat-girl.

Her eyes widen with surprise, and you're rewarded with a sudden, ecstatic smile. "Thank you! Oh, thank you so much!" she all but cries, taking your hand and hauling herself up and onto you in a fierce hug. "But we've got to hurry. Those men... they attacked us just outside the eastern gate. They can't have gotten far."

Giving her a firm nod, you turn towards the tavern door and pull your cloak around yourself, bracing for the fierce cold to come. Cait does the same, following you to the entrance with slowly returning confidence in her step. "I'm not much of a fighter," she admits, "but I can do a little magic — healing, actually. Or I could, if I had my staff. I must have dropped it on the road."

"Speaking of which," Garth says, hobbling up behind you and offering you a cloth-wrapped bundle. "Won't do to have you going out there unarmed. Take this."

You accept the old wolf's offering and unfold the cloth to reveal a long, slender quarterstaff. It lacks the adornment of most mage's staves, but a quick inspection reveals a good bit of heft behind it. "My wife's. Kept it around, just in case... maybe you'll get some use out of it."

"Thank you, Garth," you say, wrapping your hand around the quarterstaff. Turning to Cait, you add, "Come on. We don't have any time to lose."

She nods, and the two of you press out of the Frost Hound and into the howling blizzard.
