Out of nowhere Carrie pulled away from me, leaving my chest exposed. I tried to mouth to her to stop, but Carrie had already made up her mind. She left me against the tree, and walked out into their vision.
“Hey!” Carrie said, sounding just as chipper as always.
“There you are. We’ve been looking all over the place for you,” Beth said. “We were beginning to worry you’d gotten lost out there.”
“Sorry about that. My friend and I just wanted to check out the cabins early,” Carrie said. Why was she letting them know I was here?
“Uh-huh. And seeing as you still have both your shoes on, I take it this is your friends,” Beth said.
“Yep, that’s Erica’s alright. She’s kind of shy, and super accident prone. Always losing things. I’m Carrie by the way.”
“Well I’m Beth, and this meathead is Brent. We’re gonna be two of your counselors,” Beth said.
“Sup,” Brent said, apparently not bothered by Beth’s description of him. He also seemed to be putting on a more friendly and official tone. “So, is this Erica girl around here? You two didn’t get separated did you?”
I glanced over to Carrie’s side, praying she wouldn’t tell them I was here. Maybe I’d get lucky and she’d lead them away. Then I could dig something to wear out of her bags and drop them off at the cabin.
