Chapter 5

Does the family know? Is there something else about Yarah?
Yarah's family can't know about the transplant
'It appears Yarah was an exchange student from Saudi Arabia. The police have contacted the Saudi embassy and I believe a representative from the embassy is on the way to the hospital as we speak' he paused before continuing 'I believe the donor's family don't know about the transplant. They did not even know that Yarah had signed up as a donor. This will make things more difficult I'm afraid' the doctor told you.
'What is the relevance for Sarah?' you asked
The doctor hesitated before answering. 'It could be very relevant. The transplant was not authorised by the hospital. It was experimental and to be frank I did not expect it to work'
'I understand doctor. It was either do this transplant or watch Sarah die. I appreciate what you did and will forever be thankful that you saved Sarah's life'
'I need you to keep what we did a secret. I would lose my registration and possibly even face criminal prosecution if it leaks out that I conducted this operation'
'That's ridiculous! You saved Sarah's life! You should win a Nobel prize!'
'Nether-the-less that is where we currently stand' He then paused before continuing 'There are other consequences. Sarah will no longer be Sarah. She will have the legal identity of Yarah Amanlah. A citizen of Saudi Arabia. She will only be allowed to stay in this country as per the details on her student visa. She will no longer be married to you'
'But she will still identify as Sarah won't she?'
'In theory. She should have all of Sarah's memories'
'Will she remember that I am her husband?'
'I believe so'
'Then everything will be okay. We can get married again. As my wife she would be able to stay in this country'
'Let us hope so' replied the doctor.
'For how much longer will she have to remain sedated' you asked
'I would like to keep her sedated for another 24 hours. Just to be safe. We will wake her tomorrow morning. She will be confused when she wakes. It would be good if you could be here when she does'
'I will be here' you replied.
Just then the doctors pager buzzed 'Excuse me I must take this' He left the room.
You said goodbye to Sarah, who was sleeping soundly. 'Goodbye sweetheart. I will be back in the morning. You will be in for a surprise'

The Ultimate Transplant
Someone you know is given a new body & life
PLEASE ADD CHAPTERS! A close friend or family member is horribly injured in an accident. As they lay dying in the emergency room, another patient dies of a brain aneurysm. Both of them are organ donors, so a surgeon decides it's the perfect opportunity for him to try an experimental surgery. He transplants the victim's higher brain (the cerebellum) to the donor's body in an attempt to 'save' a life. Amazingly it works. But the surgery was not approved so the hospital convinces the families to keep quiet, arguing that revealing this operation to the public would bring never-ending media attention to all involved. That means that the patient will have to publicly assume the identity of the donor. What will this mean to your friends and family? Who else will you tell? Although you will spend a lot of time and effort giving support, how will all this alter your relationship to the patient? And how will he or she adapt to a complete change of body and identity? Many transformation stories focus on the change or victim, so I thought it would be interesting to instead have the POV be someone who sees the change from the outside. Writers feel free to explore a change in age, gender, class or ethnicity - and the repercussions that change would have on the main character (and others).
