XXXmas Party: A Quiet Ride Home...
Leah was in no mood to talk about what happened upstairs. It took her every fiber of her being to not break down crying as she grabbed Jonathan by the hand after coming down the stairs from AP Kenning's upper floor and urging Jonathan to go to the car.
"You sure you wanna go?" Jonathan asked--his cheeks rosy with alcohol.
"Yes." Leah said firmly in a voice and with a look that Jonathan could tell was "the look." He might have been intoxicated but his brain wasn't so addled by booze to be entirely stupid. He didn't want to tempt fate--he assumed it was something HE did that led Leah to want to leave so quickly.
"Uh okay honey, no problem. We can go." He wasn't sure if he should drive, but the look and tone Leah gave him made him determined to brave a DUI charge than question her or take the time to call an Uber.
They drove all the way home in complete silence. Leah only let out a soft, gentle word of encouragement to him as they went to their room to get some sleep.
"Sorry, babe." she gave him a look that relayed sadness and padded his heart of fear "I...I just needed to go. It wasn't you I promise. I just have been stressed is all. I love you. I wanna get some sleep."
"Of course darling. I understand." he lied--he had no clue what was going on-but who ever could understand the mind of a woman--he thought, as they went off to bed.
