Wrong Tree or Right?

Grrla wasn't the best of swimmers. She was carried out of sight of the camp and its clearing before she was able to get near the river's side. Then white water caught her and thrust her rapidly away. She used her magic bracelets and greaves to keep her from any more harm than scrapes and bruises. And the redhead made the river smoother with her sword, breaking boulders too large to bump and bounce over.

In, at last, a more orderly if still strong flow, Gnrrla was able to pull herself up onto firm, though moist soil of the riverbank.

When even her boots were out of the water, she rolled over onto her back to catch her breath. And bearings.

It was still the dark of night, but there were no sign of moon or stars, the tree-cover overhead was so dense. It cast its gloom even on the river itself. Gnrrla knew that this place was a wolver wood, a place where creatures and not-created hid from the light of man.

"They hide from mid-beings?" Gnrrla sneered. "Then they should hide from me." Yet she needed them not to hide, at least the disgusting and venous of them; she was hungry. Famished! After overhearing a surprise party was being planned for her eighteenth birthday, she had fasted, determined to out-eat and out-drink all others. She now knew what kind of party had been planned for.

Hurting and aching from the battering she had taken on her trip, she **** herself onto her boots. Soaked and cold, she looked for dry wood to make a fire to warm herself and cook what she could find. Cook? She might eat it raw.

The night mist made finding dry wood at ground level scarcer. She used All-sharp as an ax. One mighty slice and the tree almost as wide as her sword was long fell. She was disappointed to find it hadn't been as great a feat as she had thought. The tree was not solid, but hollow.
