Even the oldest maps in the monastery only showed a fraction of the continent with the rest being lost to time during the period of chaos.

From what I remember the continent resembled eurasia with us being in what could be best described as northern Italy.

It wasn’t a perfect match but it was the closest comparison which came to mind even if the surroundings differed quite a bit from actual europe. Where Britain was supposed to be were only a bunch of small islands and the Netherlands alongside northern Germany were completely missing as if swallowed by the sea.

Humanity, and in that I include all humanoid races, was forced to evacuate here to the outer reaches of the empire as devastating battles destroyed entire continents or at-least that’s whats written here.

How much of that is exaggeration and how much is the truth I couldn’t tell but I did remember reading some books referring to them and even telling stories about them so there might be a kernel of truth there.

Nevertheless most of the continent now outside of quasi europe was referred to as the wildlands or the frontier, being ruled by monsters with only a handful of frontier cities being established by some nation wanting to reclaim the old empire lands and potentially find some untouched ruins.

Whether or not humans existed anywhere else was unknown as contact has broken off not just centuries but millennia ago.

Still as strides to reclaim the wild-lands have been steady humanity is slowly reclaiming its former lands year after year.
