Chapter 23 by Storm Chyld
How does Keira reply?
With sass.
“Okay, but you better buy me something sexy.” She winked, causing her girlfriend to giggle.
The next day all the players and other volunteers from the school loaded onto a nice looking short bus and drove into town. They were all dressed in drab jeans, and yellow school shirts, so they could all be easily identified and humiliated by the town folk. They split into groups with various tasks, pulling weeds, picking up trash, washing off graffiti, and the like. Despite the tedium of the task, the day was filled with sunshine, and warmth, and she was spending time with her girlfriend, so all and all it wasn’t that bad at all.
During their break, Josie and Keira found a quiet place to make out, and fool around, though Josie was cautious not to be too risqué in public. Soon lunch came, and they headed to the diner, intending to meet with Raph and Beth. Sitting down Keira looked around wondering where the other two were. They waited a few minutes when Josie suddenly bent over and gripped her stomach in pain.
“You okay?” Keira asked, concerned.
“Beth is hurt.” Josie groaned, scared.
“How do you know that?” Keira asked confused.
“We’re twins, and linked, side effect of the Rain Fall.” She explained wincing.
Keira got up and looked around the diner, spotting Michael. “Mike!”
The young black man jumped, spilling his drink. “I didn’t do it.” He said frightened.
“Where is Beth?” Keira asked him.
“Beth?” He asked slowly to catch on.
“Were!” Keira growled.
“She went back to the school, I think, with the new guy.” He said, startled.
Keira dashed out of the diner and headed for the bus that had driven them to town. Opening the doors she jumped in the vehicle, and then realized she didn’t have the keys. Josie darted into the bus just after her, and slapped the igniter with her hand, letting controlled tendrils of electricity slip into the keyhole, and guided it down into the engine, causing the spark, which caused the vehicle to turn over.
“Nice.” Keira smiled, as Michael climbed the stairs behind her girlfriend. “Sit down.” She told them, shutting the door, and gunning it out of the paring lot. With a heavy foot and a short journey, they came roaring up in front of the school. Stopping just in front of the entrance, they piled out and dashed into the large building. “Which way?”
“I don’t know, the office maybe?” Josie said, taking off down the hall.
Turning a corner near Alaric’s office, they found Raph in his titan form, in a losing fight with a large man made of stone. Though Raph dwarfed the six- and half-foot living statue, it was clear who had taken the worst of it. Raph saw Josie coming, and threw his hand up to ward her off, giving his opponent an opening, as he hit the Atlas with a right hook, and sent him crashing into a wall ****.
Near to where Raph’s body had fallen, Alaric himself was knocked cold as well. Josie screamed in anger, and let loose a torrent of lightning, striking the man made of stone. Growling in irritation the large man, barreled toward them. Josie was faster however, as she zipped past him, leaving a trail of lightning behind her, and zapped him again. The man whirled around and tried to hit her, but she was way to fast.
Using the distraction Keira came running up behind him, summoning her swords of Ice she brought both blades down crashing into his broad back. Her swords shattered into a thousand pieces, only drawing his attention. The pink haired beauty ducked the back fist intended to remove her head from her shoulders and created a sledgehammer of ice. Catching him on the chin with an upward arc, she launched him through the air, and back onto his keister.
Josie blasted him again as he shook off the hit Keira had caught him with, but her lightning had no effect at all. Scrambling to his feet, he darted toward Keira, seeing her as the bigger threat and swung again. Keira dodged his attack, far more agile than the big man, but her swing with the hammer was slow, unused to fighting with such a weapon. Grabbing the hammer, he slammed his fist into her chest, and sent her hurtling back through the air.
Josie blasted him in the face, trying to disorientate him and this time had success. The stone man stumbled backwards throwing his arm up to shield his eyes from the intense light. Keira rolled back to her feet and summoned her cold like energy. “Josie, hit the deck!” She cried out, before throwing her hands forward and launching a beam of cold energy. Josie skittered backwards in a flash, as she hit the beast dead on, and sent him through a wall.
Dashing forward she shrouded her body in ice, as she dove through the wall, after him. Keira got caught, as he slammed his fist into her stomach, and sent her right back outward. The stone man came barreling after her like a runaway locomotive. Keira rolled up to her feet again and dashed head on at the stone goliath, without fear. Throwing a sheet of ice in front of her, she slid across the ground, and swept his legs out from under him, sending him face first into the ground. The beast rolled onto his back, just as Keira launched herself on top of him, and began raining down heavy blows across the back of his head.
With a growl of anger, the creature rolled over on top of her, getting the upper hand, and reared back his fist, intending to pulverize the ice queen. Keira slammed two fingers into his shoulder, and elongated the ice, into a sharp blade. The blade slipped through his armor like skin, and burst out the other side, covered in blood. The stone man howled in agony, as she broke the ice spike off of her finger and scrambled backwards.
Suddenly Josie was there behind him grabbing the spike of ice and letting her power flow through it and into him. The man convulsed as she fried him inside out, a wisp of smoke escaping his mouth. As the man toppled over, Keira stared up at the ceiling trying to relearn how to breathe, as she let the ice slip from her skin, into a pool of water beneath her.
Josie bent over and peered down at her. “You okay?”
