Winter—Spring Hols — The Dean
To the manager of Club Nysa,
I hope this email finds you well.
I understand advertisements were posted on the University College campus.
I understand you spoke with my receptionist, who allowed the advertisements to be posted.
This has not been an issue thus far.
However, I would like to discuss additional advertising and request that you meet with me to discuss it, as well as your capacity to host staff and student events.
Please reply at your earliest convenience.
Kathryn Imalee
Dean / College University
“Who the fuck is this?” Maki asks aloud, staring at her phone.
Anya looks over her shoulder, a headband pushing her hair out of her face at this early 8:00 am morning.
“Kathryn Dean.” She blinks. “No. Dean Imalee. No. Kathryn Imalee.”
Maki looks back, a distressed look on her face. “Are you having a stroke?”
Anya yawns, turning away and heading to the kitchen to make a coffee. “No. I’m a girl.”
“Anya. What the fuck does that mean?”
Anya taps her temple. “Hmm. Mysteries of the universe.”
Maki blinks in confusion, pointing at the girl who leans over the kitchen bench. “You are useless in the morning.”
“Nuh uh.” She replies sleepily, her eyes fluttering. “I’m Anya. In the morning and the rest of the day.”
Maki rolls her eyes and rereads the email. “I don’t know if I want to host a school event.”
“It’s not a school event.” Anya yawns, dragging her feet, and sits on the couch with her older sister. “It’s a university event.”
Maki frowns. “Get a job or something.”
Anya yawns again. She leans over and puts her head on her sister's shoulder. “Yes, boss. Thank you for the job.”
Maki exhales and shakes her head, rereading the email for a third time.
“She might pay for it, though.” She thinks aloud.
“I don’t think she’d ask for a free event, sis.” Anya says softly, both her hands wrapped around the mug.
“Fair point.”
Maki decided to take that meeting. She’s dressed up a little; it feels right to her. Laura’s hand-me-down brown jacket, which she donned as her ‘meeting coat’, felt the most appropriate. She sits in the reception area of the fancy mahogany offices of her stepbrother's uni campus. She's a bit confused about why she's nervous. It’s not like the Dean has any power over her. She’s a business owner; she can’t be expelled or punished or anything.
‘Do I have a complex with strong women? This has to be Laura’s fault. I need to relax; she’s probably some old woman trying to be hip with her students.’
The receptionist looks up, her cigarette-smoke voice responding in her direction. “Ms Imalee is ready for you now.”
Maki nods her thanks and stands up, knocking politely before opening the door.
“Hi? I’m Maki, the owner of Club Nyyyyiii…” Maki trails off as she opens the door, her eyes bugging wide as the woman in front of her is not a white-haired geriatric, but rather an attractive, albeit older woman, with a light shade of violet hair falling in feathered layers around her sharp jawline. Her piercing cyan eyes regard her with an icy but still somehow approachable stare behind half-lidded lashes.
But the aspect of this woman that shocks Maki the most, the part that her eyes can’t be pulled away from. Is her black ribbed sweater that wraps around her incredibly generous chest, her lithe arms in direct contrast to the breasts that command more space than even Maki’s chest does.
“The owner of Club Nysa, correct? Maki Megara Doe?”
Maki shudders, getting her bearings and nodding. “Yes. Sorry. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Her smile is icy as she nods to the chair across from her. “Thank you for responding to my email. Please. Ms Megara, sit. Or do you prefer Doe?"
Maki lifts the chair and sits down, smoothing her skirt. “Just Maki is fine.”
“Very well.” The woman replies, extending a hand forward. “My name is Kathryn Imalee. You may call me by my first name.”
Maki takes her hand and gives it a light shake.
Kathryn Imalee moves almost robotically, her body not moving except where she wants it to. Maki can't even tell if she’s breathing, and she would know; she can’t get her eyes off this woman's chest.
“I don’t want to take up too much of your time, Maki. I expect you have business to attend to?”
Maki smiles, tearing her eyes upwards again, having already fallen to the woman's chest again. “I have all the time you need.” She swallows. “I’m more than happy to make time for potential business opportunities and professional partnerships.”
Kathryn’s smile widens, not affecting her eyes, of course, relegated to just her lips. “That pleases me. Well then, regardless, I’ll get to the point.”
Maki nods expectantly.
“We often struggle with finding venues that want to host not only ‘rowdy’ college student events, but also an unwillingness to be known as an ‘old people’ venue.” She pauses. “I prefer not to get too involved with the students' social lives, but I recognise that the Greek houses on our campus are not particularly open to all students.”
“College is just an excuse to continue high school popularity contests.” Maki adds, chuckling.
Kathryn’s smile is cold. “You attended college?”
“Just for a bit.” She stammers out. “I didn’t finish. I didn’t have the brain for it.”
“Yet you run what appears to be a successful business so far.”
“Ah. Thank you.”
Kathryn nods. “My proposition, the reason I emailed you. I want to form a partnership with your venue, where you host some of our events, and we will provide free advertising on campus as well as further advertising by putting the bars logos on our sports teams as the front of shirt sponsor.”
“Is that allowed? For a club logo to be on college teams' shirts?”
“If you accept my offer, you can let me worry about that.” She replies simply.
Before Maki can answer, Kathryn raises a hand. “I understand your scepticism. As I said, this has been a long-lasting problem. I propose that we have a trial run. I aim to bring back a Halloween costume party this year. I want Club Nysa to host.”
“I have to ask.” Maki says. “How would this work financially?”
Kathryn nods. “Of course. It would be free entry for the students and staff who attend to chaperone. The university coffers will cover half of the revenue that you would have made if everyone paid for entry. Specialty drinks and other mixed custom drinks would be sold at your normal price, and each staff member or student will get a free drink card to redeem at the bar.”
Maki’s eyebrows shoot up. This deal is almost better for her… “Instead of cards. How about a set menu of simple, low-alcohol drinks that are either free or at a massive 75% discount?”
Kathryn’s eyebrow cocks. “I hope you understand this would still be a university function. I don’t want those in my care getting too inebriated.”
“They won’t. My bartenders know when to cut off. People getting hurt or too drunk because of my venue is dangerous for me too.”
Kathryn nods. “Shall we try this trial run?”
Maki nods, her turn to extend her hand now. “Let’s give it a go.”
Kathryn takes her hand with a warm smile.
…
As Maki leaves Kathryn’s office, her eyes go wide as she sees yet ANOTHER big-chested older woman, her jaw almost falling open as the long red-haired milf smiles politely at her, knocking and opening the door to the Dean's office.
“Ah. Amel- " Kathryn's voice is cut off as the redhead closes the door behind her.
‘What the fuck is in the water in this place? Maybe Anya should do uni here, fuckin’ hell. Everyone's got fucking honkers.’
…
“Was that a student?” The redhead asks, sitting across from the dean, crossing her legs.
Kathryn sighs, shaking her head and deflating a little, getting a bit more comfortable in the presence of a colleague. “No. Local club owner.”
“Oh, still looking for partnerships?”
Kathryn nods. “It is proving much more difficult than I expected, Amelia.”
Amelia Revers chuckles. “That one seemed good, though? You had a big old smile on your face.”
“I proposed a trial run.” She grumbles, running her hand back through the side of her head. “I got nervous she wasn’t going for it.”
“Nervous? That’s not like you.”
“With this. I’ve been knocked back so many times. I needed something to land.” Kathryn grabs her glasses from the case on her desk and slides them on. “You needed something?”
Amelia nods. “Yes. Sorry. The student I’m tutoring. Erik Doe. I wanted to request early access to his exam grades.”
Kathryn looks up. “Doe?”
Amelia nods. “Should I be worried? Has he done something?”
Kathryn ponders the connection, but shakes her head for now. “Are you in communication with him?” She narrows her eyes.
Amelia nods. “Yes. For education purposes. He’s proven to be a good student and very involved in his studies. So I want to demonstrate my own commitment to his learning and give him a detailed session on his return.”
Kathryn nods. “I see.” Kathryn types his name into her computer and downloads his grades. “You understand your reputation amongst the students, correct?”
Amelia shifts and nods. “I am. That hasn’t proven to be an issue with Erik.”
“Make sure it doesn’t,” Kathryn says.
“Obviously,” Amelia replies, lying to her boss friend infinitely easier than lying to her husband.
As if reading her thoughts, Kathryn sends the email with Erik’s grades to Amelia’s inbox, and as she does, she asks, “How fares Leon? All is well between you?”
Amelia is only caught off guard for a moment. “We… We’re working through some things… But good. We’re getting better.”
“I see.” She looks up, her blue icy stare meeting Amelia’s green intense one. “I’m glad to hear it. I’m always here for you if you need to talk something out.”
Amelia smiles. “Have to book you in, though, right?” Wiggling her way away from this topic.
Kathryn lets out a genuine chuckle. “I have to make meetings for bathroom breaks now a days.”
The older women laugh together.
