Chapter 18 by Zerone Zerone

What's next?

Wild Elora appears

A week later, our new magic tutor arrived. Arti and I are currently waiting for her at the training field.

“What do you think she is going to be like?” Arti asks me.

“Probably all old and wrinkly. I mean, they say she is the greatest fire, wind and lightning magic user around. She must have trained her whole life to be the best at it,” I say.

“Could be,” Arti replies.

Just then, I notice a movement up in the sky. I look at the direction of the movement and see a figure flying towards us. It gets closer by the second until it is close enough to make out its features. Unfortunately, all I could tell was that it was a human. It was moving was moving to fast to make anything else out. Before we knew it, this person was descending a few meters away from us, their clothes and ours fluttering from the strong gusts of wind until the person landed and the winds stopped.

Now, you can see this person properly. It was a young woman. She couldn’t be older than 30. She was tall at around 1.80 cm. She was wearing very tight black pants and a fitting green blouse. She has a fit and slim physique. Her hips were wide, her legs slender, her waist narrow. I could immediately see that her butt was quite big. Her chest was modest under the blouse. On her legs were black boots. Her face was beautiful. She had piercing green eyes and full lips. Her white platinum straight hair was put into a high ponytail. Oh, and she had long pointy ears. That would mean she was an elf.

She dusts off her clothes and walks over to us. “Are you the royal kids that I am supposed to train in fire and wind magic?” she says casually looking down at us.

My eyebrow started to rise. First of all, I did not expect our magic teacher to be so young. Second, the way that she casually addressed us was surprising. People always used a respectful tone and addressed us by our titles. She wasn’t like that. Honestly, it was a breath of fresh air.

“We are,” I reply politely and smile. “My name is Zenovia. And this is my older twin brother, Artias. Feel free to call me Zen. It is easier on the tongue.”

“Your brother can’t speak for himself?” she says crossing her arms.

I look to my right and see that Arti is standing there with his mouth half-open, still surprised by the sudden appearance of our teacher. I elbow him in the ribs to snap him out. It works.

“H-hello, ma’am. My name is Artias. It is a pleasure to meet you,” he stammers.

The elf woman huffs. “What’s up with you? Relax a little and drop the formalities. It makes me feel old.”

“Could have fooled me…” I mutter under my breath.

“What was that, boy?” she turns her attention to me. “Those ears are not so long for decorative purposes you know,” she points at her long ears.

“Why ask for clarification then?” I reply.

She laughs heartily. “You are a cheeky little brat. I like that,” she stops her laughter. “As you might have guessed, I am here to tutor you in fire and wind magic. My name is Elora and I am an elf. I am also one of the strongest fire, wind and lightning magic users around,” she proudly states.

“How come you are so strong, but look so young? Are you secretly 100 years old and disguise your true age with magic?” I say. Arti looks at me like I am an idiot who just jumped off a cliff.

Elora softly head-chopped me on the head. “For your information, I am 29 years old. Which makes it all the more impressive looking at what I achieved so far,” she grins.

“How did you become so good so soon then?” I ask rubbing my head.

“I am just that talented. Not even joking. You can put as much effort into something as you want, but without talent, you wouldn’t be able to reach the peak of your potential and go beyond it. Unless you can somehow survive for several centuries. Then you would probably have enough time to achieve what a talented and hardworking person can achieve in a lifetime,” she says with her arms crossed.

“Enough chit-chat. I am here to teach you both fire and wind magic,” then she turns to you. “And lightning magic to you when you reach the adept level in fire and wind. You, blondie, tell me why you can’t learn lightning magic.” She addresses Arti after turning away from you.

“Because only magic casters with high affinity in two basic elements can learn the sub-element of those two basic elements,” Arti swiftly replies.

“Precisely,” Elora nods. “I was told that you…do you have a nickname or something? Artias is too hard to pronounce,” she looks at Arti expectantly.

“It is? I mean, yes, I do. You can call me Arti,” he replies.

“Good. You two can call me Elora or Ela. Whichever you prefer. Back to the topic. You, Arti, only have a low affinity for fire and wind magic, right?” she asks.

“That’s right” Arti answers.

She turns back to me. “That means that you are the one with high affinity,” she says. I nod in response. “Perfect. I expect great things from you. There are not a lot of people with affinities like ours. You also have high affinities for water and earth, correct?”

“Yes, and Arti has high affinities for water, earth and light magic,” I reply.

“Interesting,” she nods and claps her hands once. “Alright, let’s begin the training. We have a lot of catching up to do. I expect you both to reach an adept level within two years. Your father, the king, offered me a pretty coin to stay here and tutor you for the next 10 years. It won’t be the only thing I will do here. I will continue my research between our lessons. Now, let’s begin. Show me what you can do. You already know how this goes. I will be here to correct any mistakes to streamline the process. Go.”

Thus, our lessons began.
