"So why smoke now?"

"Hm?" Layla tilts her head.

"You said you smoke when you're going through stuff..." Ethan shrugs, "So why smoke now?"

"Oh..." the blonde woman chews the corner of her mouth slightly. "It's silly. Don't worry about it."

Ethan stares at her for a moment. "It's clearly bothering you whatever it is. Do you want to talk about it?"

Layla takes a breath. "I... I couldn't..."

"How many times now have you said I can talk to you about things?" Ethan asks rhetorically. "It goes both ways. Come on. Lay it on me."

"Ah... I..." Layla clears her throat, "A-Alright... Well..." she turns away from Ethan starting off towards the road, "My ex-husband is getting remarried."

"Oh." Ethan blinks. He wasn't sure what to expect, but that wasn't towards the top of the list.

"See?" Layla groans, "It's silly..."

"No. No, it's..." Ethan shrugs, "I can see how that could be... Weird."

"We've been divorced half my life..." Layla shakes her head slightly. "And still, hearing about it, well, it sort of..." she turns back to Ethan, "This is going to sound awful, but I sort of hoped he'd never get over me, you know? That he would never love again."

"You're right," Ethan clicks his tongue, "That is awful."

Layla chuckles, shaking her head. "Thankfully, I've long since accepted the fact I'm not perfect." She gives Ethan a sly smirk, "Although I'd like to think I'm pretty close..."

Ethan starts to say something, but can't find the will to disagree. Instead, the two of them sit there in silence, enjoying the night air.

Sensing his gaze, Layla looks over at Ethan, raising a brow. "You've got a look about you. Something the matter?"
