What feels right

The waitress keeps smiling at you while she stands beside the booth, one hand resting casually against her hip.

“You should come out tonight,” she says softly. “There’s this place down by the pier where everybody drinks way too much and dances until like two in the morning.”

She leans a little closer afterward, the tight black t-shirt stretching slightly against her chest while the short skirt hugs tightly against her hips.

“You seem like you’d be fun out there,” she adds quietly.

For a second, the attention gets to you a little.

You’d be lying if it didn’t.

Something about that answer softens the waitress’s expression almost immediately.

“Well,” she says while taking the card from you, “good for you then.”

Then she steps away from the booth again.

And yes, your eyes still briefly catch the curve of her body while she walks away.

But this time there’s no temptation attached to it.

No lingering thought.

Because honestly?

All you really want is Jane back beside you already.

A few seconds later, she finally returns from the bathroom completely unaware of the interaction that just happened.

The second she slides back into the booth, she immediately reaches for your hand beneath the table again.

“Ready?” Jane asks softly.

You smile while squeezing her fingers once.

“Yeah,” you reply honestly. “Ready.”

Then a little while later, the two of you leave the café together hand-in-hand before disappearing back into the warm crowded streets near the beach, sunlight spilling across the sidewalks while Jane leans comfortably against your side.

And somehow?

The entire afternoon already feels lighter again.
