What's going on here?

Harem Hotel: Night at The Improv

The basic concept of ‘HH:NaTI’ is that each chapter is written by a different author entirely; no two chapters in a row should have the same author, they have near-complete free rein over what happens within their chapters, though I do have some rules to actually keep it fun

1. All characters must be original, unless involved in some crossover-type stuff down the line, but the main cast must all be new; no reusing your own or stealing others' characters.

2. No claiming ownership of any characters or ideas introduced in this branch; it is a collaborative, improvised story, not yours and not mine.

3. No playing favourites. You can root for whoever you want as a reader, but when it's your time to write, write what's best for the story; don't just dump 100VP on your favourite girl.

4. Don’t randomly decide to change a character's sexuality if they are explicitly established otherwise.

5. Don't try to instantly undermine something another author has established; whether you like it or not, it happened and is canon now. A big rule of improv is ‘yes, and…’ stick to it.

6. Try to keep the characters actually ‘in character,’ so to speak, and don’t change key details about them (likes/dislikes, backstory, etc). I'm not too worried about this, considering you are all experienced authors to some degree. And even in real life, people can be hypocritical and ‘out of character’ or even be hiding their true self, yada yada yada. So there can be edge cases where somebody wouldn’t be themselves, obviously; just do whatever serves the story best in your eyes. There will be a doc keeping track of key character details provided; stick to it :)

7. Ideally, please don't irreversibly destroy a part of the story unless it has some form of narrative satisfaction (no killing the host in chapter 12 and ending the story there, for example)

8. If you can't be bothered, or aren’t available to do a chapter you said you would, then don’t; let everyone know, and somebody else can do the next chapter. This is completely voluntary, and nobody should feel pressured at all.

9. The doc provided when you decide to take part in this will have VP numbers as well as character info lumped together; keep consistent with what it says

10. I guess I forgot to put this in the actual rules bit, but no two chapters in a row shall be published by the same author; this is improv and we take turns.
