Watching a movie

You sit down beside her. Chloe grabs a couple of DVD cases from the small shelf beside the couch and starts showing them to you. Every single one is a cheesy Hallmark-style romance movie.

“You a big romance fan?” you ask with a grin.

Chloe immediately blushes and looks away, trying to play it cool. “Not really…” she mumbles, clearly lying. “I just thought these would be the best thing to watch right now.”

“Sure,” you say, not believing her for a second. You wrap your arm around her shoulders and pull her closer. Thankfully, she doesn’t resist, instead, she leans into your side with a small, cute smile.

You rest your hand on her waist as she finally picks one. “This one,” she says, holding up a case titled something like From Streets to Crown. “It’s about a random homeless American girl who suddenly becomes the princess of England.”

“Sounds completely realistic,” you deadpan.

“Shut up,” she laughs, nudging you with her elbow before putting the movie on.

The movie is every bit as boring and predictable as you expected, corny dialogue, over-the-top romance, and a ridiculous plot. But none of that matters. Chloe keeps snuggling closer, eventually curling up against your chest. Holding her like this feels really nice. Her body is warm and soft, and her ponytail keeps brushing against your arm.
