Wait it out

I couldn't bring myself to betray someone who had been so nice to me. "Well, could you at least find a way to make this room warm, even just a little? I feel like a gallon of ice cream in Nancy Pelosi's walk in ice cream freezer."

"Yeah. you are shivering pretty bad," the guard relented. "I don't think I could keep you warm enough by holding you. I'll turn off the thermostat, and see if I can find a space heater for you. You're sweet enough to lick, but not as a popsicle. " He went out, closing the door behind him. Then he fiddled with the temperature settings just outside the door. "I'll be right back," he said, peering through the window.

My shivering slowly began to subside as time passed. Finally the guard returned, and opened the door, He was carrying a space heater that he had already plugged in. "I'm really sorry about all of this," he said as he set up the heater up, and turned it on. He looked up at me, and smiled. "There, you should be warmed up in no time."

He turned to leave, but I really didn't want him to go. "Could you hold me until it gets warm enough?"

He came back to me, and took me into his arms. "Does this answer your question?"

"I would have to say so," I replied. "Can I ask you something?"

"Sure. Anything you want."

"How does a nice guy like you become involved with such an evil person as Doctor Zero?"

"I'm a mercenary for hire. The price he offered me was right." I could tell he was being honest with me.

"I could pay you a lot more to be my bodyguard, if we ever get out of this. Wouldn't you rather work for the good guys?" I looked deep into his eyes.

"Well, you definitely need some protection. But right now, I don't want to put either of our lives in jeopardy. We'll both survive this as long as we wait it out. I'm sure Doc will let you go, and I'll take you home. I'd hate to see anything bad happen to my future employer." He chuckled, and held me tighter.
