Valentine Moore: The Chosen One

So, creating pretty much every other character using the Hunter: The Vigil rules was pretty easy but the actual main character required special attention. To an extent, he has been completely transformed but I think that everything still works narratively, with only a little bit of fudge.

The first decision was whether to use a supernatural template from one of the other games, with Deviant: The Renegades being a somewhat complicated but still quite satisfying way to basically create any kind of supernatural being, or to create a bespoke shapeshifter archetype using one of the supplements, specifically Changing Breeds and The War Against The Pure, that accommodate that. For reasons I am unsure of, I decided to pursue the latter strategy. Almost immediately, I had problems, since both books were written for the first edition of Werewolf: The Forsaken, whereas I only own the second edition.

Note: Technically, Changing Breeds was written for neither edition, and exists more as a holdover from Werewolf: The Apocalypse.

In the end, I was able to jostle things about a bit and come up with this (using the Chronicles of Darkness core rulebook and applying a custom template made using the shapechanger rules in The War Against The Pure). So, with that bit of housekeeping out of the way, here is the new and improved Valentine Moore:

Hybrid Form

Claw attacks deal +2 lethal damage. Bites deal +2 lethal damage and do not require a grapple. Bite and claw attacks can establish grapples in addition to causing damage. Increase Initiative by +3 when using teeth or claws. Apply Defence to Firearms attacks.

Animal Form

Strength + 1 - Dexterity + 2 - Size 6 - Perception + 3

Bite attacks deal +1 lethal damage and do not require a grapple. They can establish a grapple as well as cause damage. Spend 1 Essence to pre-empt another character’s action in combat with your own; usually an attack. This takes the place of a normal action. If other characters are capable of pre-empting actions, it becomes a Clash of Wills. If the animal form has already acted in a turn, it cannot use this ability. In a foot chase, an animal form uses Speed in place of Stamina + Athletics.
