As the thick, black, crushing mud crept up the sides of her face, Sue closed her eyes and concentrated. After a moment, with a tremendous sucking sound, the mud began to slowly push away from her body, until she was standing free in what appeared to be a hemispherical pit in the mire. Panting slightly, she looked up to see Kraven standing there, leaning against a tree.

“These swamps are quite treacherous, Mrs. Richards. The hot springs create currents that can pull down the unwary,” he said. “You came quite close to winning our game, quite close. But you did not. Will you come with me and freely to keep your word, or will you require…restraints?”
