You’d hoped that she’d listen to you, but your wife went to the idea’s defense. You were surprised by how much determination Kaori was able to muster. She insisted that you had the wrong idea, and that his flirtations had always been entirely tasteful and consensual. That it never prevented him from being as helpful a councilor as she could have hoped for.

Yes, there might be risks involved, but the same trust that you were concerned about was why he was the perfect option. She had no doubt that he’d be able to navigate the ethical issues, because he’d proven himself so skilled at it during their many conversations. If anything, a chance to sleep with him might even improve her mental health, not risk it. It was a chance to really work through her bedroom issues.

At the end of the day, what mattered most wasn’t how much power he had. It was whether he was the sort of man who’d **** that power. Your wife was certain that he wasn’t.

“Darling…I just want you to be comfortable with everything. I think it’s a good idea, and I want you to trust me…”

“If you want though…then I can just forget about it. If you even want me to stop visiting his office…I-I can do that, too. I don’t know where I would find someone who helps me as much as he does. But, if you would prefer that…”

Your tone instantly shifted. You hurriedly assured her that you weren’t going to do anything like that. If she trusted him, that meant that you trusted him. All that you were doing was sharing your concerns. That was just your job as her protector. You swore that you’d be just as critical of anyone, because you wanted the best for her.
