Chapter 121

Does Max save Victoria? Is she too late? Do they both get skunked?

Two Girls Skunked

Max made it to the frightened Victoria's side just as the skunk fired it's special perfume upon them, showering them in musk as the skunk ran off.

"Ugh! I'm never going to get used to that!" Max groaned, coughing and gagging from the smell. Turning to Victoria, the shorter girl gave a concerned look as she asked, "Vicky? Are you alright?"

"Am I alright?!" Victoria snapped as she pushed Max aside, "No, I'm not alright! I smell like a sewer filled with dead bodies! Why didn't you tell us about that -" Victoria stopped mid rant as a look of realization came to her face, narrowing her eyes at Max. "How did you know?"

"Guys! Are you alright?!" Rachel asked as she and Chloe raced over to them before recoiling from the smell. "Oh, Dog! That stinks!"

"How did you know about the second skunk, Max?!" Victoria asked again as she and Max got to their feet.

"Yeah... I'm kinda confused on that as well." Chloe admitted as she went over to check the truck and clothes.

With a sigh, Max began to explain the entire story of her jumping through time to stop this event, not leaving out the details of the third skunk in the backyard and the fourth the following morning.

"You jumped through time that many times?" Rachel asked, "And in one of those timelines I was a 'skunk sacrifice'?"

"Pretty much." Max replied.

"Well then why didn't you tell us about the second one sooner?!" Victoria snapped.

"Because I was too busy trying to figure out how to save you from this fate, Victoria!" Max replied, before quickly and sheepishly adding, "And our clothes and Chloe's truck."

"Well, you saved two out of three." Chloe said as she grabbed her clothes and Rachel's, tossing the latter to her taller girlfriend as the two got dressed. "Unfortunately, we're out of gas. Rachel, there's a gas station about three blocks from here..."

"Say no more!" Rachel said once she was fully dressed, grabbing the gas can from the bed of the truck. "I'll be back as soon as I can. Keep an eye on our smelly friends."

"Screw you!" Victoria growled as she huffed angrily, sitting in the bed of the truck as Rachel walked off. "This is your fault, you know!"

Max looked over to Victoria sitting sourly in the back, muttering angrily to herself. This was the Victoria from earlier, alright. However, the real Victoria, the Victoria that Max had made a promise to, was still in there. And she was going to get her out.

Walking up to the bed of the truck, Max sat on the tailgate next to Victoria. "Hey, Vicky..."

"Don't call me Vicky." Victoria muttered, not looking at Max. "And what do you want?"

Max took a deep breath (instantly regretting it as she gagged on the skunk fumes), and exhaled slowly. Here went nothing. "In the timeline I was in before, I made a promise to that Victoria that I intend on keeping."

"Was it 'Don't let Victoria get sprayed by a skunk and have to take a humiliating tomato juice bath when I manage to save the clothes and truck this time'?" Victoria asked coldly, still not looking at Max. "Because, I gotta tell you, you really let that Victoria down."

Max felt the sting from that comment, but continued on and cleared her throat. "No, that wasn't it. See, I promised the Victoria in that timeline that -"

"Hey, SuperMax?" Chloe interrupted, getting Max's attention. "Can I talk to you for a second?"

"Okay..." Max said in confusion. Turning to Victoria, she said, "I'll be right back."

"Don't care."

Max sighed and stood up from the tailgate, walking over to Chloe as they stood a few yards away from the truck. "What's up, Chloe?"

What does Chloe want to talk about?
