What's next?

Truths and Trials

“...and then she snapped her fingers, and suddenly I had long hair!” You were mid-rant, pacing back and forth in your cramped dorm room while Liam lounged on his bed, eyes wide with disbelief. “I mean, it’s like something out of a bad movie, man. One moment I’m a dude, and the next, I’m a damn hair model! It’s so embarrassing!”

“Long hair?” Liam leaned forward, eyebrows scrunched up in confusion. “Are you serious? Like, how long are we talking? Did you just let it grow overnight, or what? This sounds insane!”

“Yeah, like, to my fucking shoulders!” You ran a hand through the silky strands, your cheeks flushing in embarrassment. “I can’t walk around campus looking like this. I feel like a joke! It’s like I’m auditioning for a role in some cheesy soap opera.”

Liam’s expression morphed from disbelief to incredulity. “Dude, if this is true, you’ve gotta show me. Like, is it a wig or something? Because if you’re messing with me right now—”

You stood still, tossing your head to let the hair swing dramatically. “Check it out! I’m not wearing a wig! This is all real!”

With that, Liam jumped off his bed and rushed over, his hands reaching out to tug gently at your hair. “Holy shit! It’s real! You’re not pulling my leg! This is wild!”

“Yeah, it’s fucking wild!” You shot back, frustration bubbling beneath your skin. “I’m telling you, it’s all because I pissed off Aphrodite last night. You know that sexy girl, Serena, from the club?” You threw in the name for good measure, even though you felt a pit of shame in your stomach. “She’s actually Aphrodite in disguise, and now I’m cursed!”

“Wait, wait, wait.” Liam raised a hand, his eyes darting as if trying to connect the dots. “You’re telling me you met a goddess, and she’s also the girl from the club? And now you’ve got long hair because she got mad at you?”

“Exactly!” You ran a hand through your hair again, trying to keep your cool. “She said I have six months to complete a series of trials or I’ll be stuck like this forever. I mean, how the hell am I supposed to deal with this?”

“No fucking way.” Liam shook his head, clearly struggling to wrap his mind around it. “You expect me to believe that? Dude, this is next-level ridiculous! You’re telling me there’s a curse that turned you into a... what? A ‘hair model’? And you expect me to just go along with this?”

“Yeah, because you can see it!” You gestured wildly at your hair. “What more proof do you need? You think I’d just make this up? I’m walking around feeling like an idiot!”

Liam stepped back, finally taking a moment to process. “Okay, okay. Let’s just think this through. So, this Aphrodite chick is the goddess of love, right? She curses you, and now you have to do these ‘trials.’ What’s the first one?”

“Hell if I know!” You groaned, frustration spilling over. “She wouldn’t tell me! Just snapped her fingers and made my hair grow! It’s like she’s toying with me. I swear, if I see her again, I’m gonna lose it!”

Liam raised an eyebrow, his skepticism softening just a bit. “So, what are you gonna do? Just walk around like this? Like some kind of… weird goddess’s plaything?”

“Exactly! I feel like a damn freak!” You threw your hands up in exasperation. “I mean, how do I even explain this? ‘Oh, hey, by the way, I’ve been cursed by a goddess, and now I’m living in some bad rom-com plot!’”

“Okay, but, seriously. What if you’re not crazy? What if this is real? You could have the ultimate story here!” Liam chuckled, clearly enjoying the absurdity of it all.

“Not when I have to walk around with long hair like I’m trying to impress some sorority girls!” You rolled your eyes, feeling the tension in your chest. “And let’s not even start on how annoying it is. I can’t stop thinking about how weird this feels. It’s uncomfortable, man!”

“Dude, you’re like a straight-up fairytale character,” Liam said, still poking fun. “So, what’s the deal with the trials? Any clues? You’ve gotta know something about what’s coming next!”

“Not a damn thing,” you admitted, anger boiling back to the surface. “She just left me in the dark! And I can’t help but think I’m being messed with on purpose. It’s like she’s getting her kicks out of this! I’m gonna find that bitch and—”

“Whoa, calm down, man! You sound like you’re losing it!” Liam chuckled, but the nervous energy in the room was palpable. “It’s just hair! I mean, it could be worse, right? You could be—”

“I don’t care! I’m going to rip her a new one when I see her again!” You shot back, fueled by rage. “I’ll tell her she’s a—”

Just as you were about to finish that sentence, there was a sharp knock on the door. The sound echoed through the room, startling both of you into silence.

You exchanged a wide-eyed glance with Liam. “What the hell?”

“Uh, do you have someone over?” Liam whispered, his face turning serious.

“No! I don’t know anyone who’d come knocking!” You hissed, dread pooling in your stomach.

Another knock, this time louder.

“Are you going to answer it?” Liam asked, inching backward, clearly wary.

“Yeah, I mean… I guess so,” you muttered, feeling a wave of unease wash over you. As you approached the door, a strange energy filled the air, and you hesitated, your heart racing.

With a shaky hand, you reached for the doorknob, dread creeping in. What if it was Aphrodite? Or worse, what if it was someone else who had come to mock you?

You took a deep breath and swung the door open, uncertainty hanging thick in the air as you prepared to face whatever was waiting on the other side.

You took a deep breath, bracing yourself for whatever was on the other side of the door. With a quick yank, you swung it open, heart racing, only to come face-to-face with none other than Aphrodite.

She stood there in a shimmering floral sundress that danced around her thighs, her hair cascading in waves down her back, golden like sunlight. But her expression was anything but warm. Anger flickered in her eyes, and she strode right past you without waiting for an invitation, like she owned the place.

“Nice to see you too, darling!” she chirped, sarcasm dripping from her voice. “I heard you had some choice words for me just now.”

“Yeah, well, you’re a—” you began, fists clenching as the anger surged back. “You’re a total bitch for doing this to me! You think it’s funny? Turning me into some kinda freak? You’re enjoying this way too much!”

Aphrodite leaned against the wall, crossing her arms and smirking as you continued your tirade. “Go on, sweetheart. I’m all ears. Really, I’m intrigued to hear just how mad you are.”

Your frustration bubbled over, and you didn’t hold back. “You think this is a game? I’m stuck with this ridiculous hair and cursed to do your stupid trials! What the hell kind of goddess treats people like this?”

“Oh, come now! You’re not even using your new hair to its full potential,” she teased, twirling a lock of your hair between her fingers, her amusement clear. “But keep going! I love a good rant.”

“Fuck you, Aphrodite! You’re a miserable excuse for a goddess, and you know it! You think you can just waltz in here and act like it’s all fun and games?”

Aphrodite raised an eyebrow, enjoying your indignation. “And what’s the worst you can call me? Because I’m just loving the creativity you’re showing right now.”

In the midst of your rant, she snapped her fingers, and without warning, you felt a strange tingling sensation all over your body. It took a moment for you to realize that all of your body hair had vanished, leaving your skin smooth and bare.

“What the—” you gasped, your face reddening in horror. “You think that’s funny? You think I want to be hairless? What the hell is wrong with you?”

Aphrodite chuckled, her laughter light and musical, like a bell ringing. “Oh, it’s just a little gift, darling. But if you keep cussing me out like that, I might just give you something else.” She leaned in closer, a mischievous glint in her eye. “Maybe a nice pair of breasts to go with that smooth skin?”

You swallowed hard, the threat sending chills down your spine. “Okay, okay, I’ll shut up!” you said quickly, suddenly less inclined to rant.

“Smart choice,” she said, still grinning.

Liam, who had been watching the whole scene unfold in stunned silence, finally spoke up. “Um, hi? Is this normal? What the hell is going on here?”

Aphrodite turned her attention to him, her demeanor shifting slightly as she acknowledged him. “Hello, Liam! I hope Lucas has been filling you in on all the juicy details. Have you heard about his little… predicament?”

“Uh, yeah. He told me about the curse and everything, but I didn’t believe it until now.” Liam shook his head, still processing everything.

Aphrodite’s eyes glinted with mischief. “Oh, I’m sure he hasn’t mentioned the most interesting part,” she said casually. “The little fact that he’s now sporting a vagina.”

You felt your stomach drop at her words, and your mouth fell open in shock. “Wait, what? No, no, no, don’t say that! You’re messing with him, right?”

“Oh, I’m not messing with him,” she said, feigning innocence. “It’s all part of the transformation, my dear. Trust me, it’ll be quite the adventure!”

Liam blinked at you, disbelief etched on his face. “Are you serious? Dude, do you think we both got **** or something last night? This can’t be real!”

Aphrodite laughed again, the sound echoing in your small room, light and carefree, completely at odds with the chaos. “Oh, it’s very real. And it’s only going to get more interesting from here!”

Without warning, she snapped her fingers again, and suddenly, Liam’s expression shifted from disbelief to pure confusion. You watched in horror as his body began to transform before your eyes.

“What the hell?” Liam exclaimed, his voice rising an octave as his body morphed, curves replacing muscle, softness overtaking strength. He stumbled back, hands flying to his chest, his fingers splayed in shock. “What’s happening? What the—”

You let out a scream, your mind racing at the absurdity of the moment. “No way! No freaking way! You’ve got to be kidding me!”

Liam turned toward the mirror on your dorm wall, his eyes wide and horrified as he caught sight of his reflection. “What the hell?!” he shrieked, now sporting a curvy feminine figure, hair cascading down his shoulders in soft waves. “What did she do to me?!”

Aphrodite leaned back against the wall, laughter spilling from her lips as she took in the chaos she had unleashed. “Oh, this is priceless! You both are going to make my day! Just wait until you see how much fun it is to navigate the world like this.”

You stood frozen, grappling with the surreal nature of the entire situation. “This can’t be real. It’s just too much! What kind of sick joke is this?”

Liam, now panicking, caught a glimpse of you and blurted, “What do I do? What do we do?!”

As you both stood there in utter disbelief, Aphrodite couldn’t contain her delight. “Welcome to your new reality, boys! Enjoy the ride; it’s going to be a wild one!”

Aphrodite’s laughter echoed through the small room, but then, with a snap of her fingers, a shimmering light enveloped Liam. You held your breath, watching in awe as he transformed back into his regular self, the curves and softness fading away to reveal the friend you had known all along.

“Good boy, Liam,” she cooed, a playful grin on her lips. “You haven’t done a thing wrong.”

Liam blinked, rubbing his temples as if trying to shake off the remnants of the bizarre experience. “What the hell just happened?” he asked, glancing between you and Aphrodite.

She strolled over to your bed and plopped down casually, crossing her legs. “Oh, just a little demonstration of the power I hold. You two are in for a wild ride, and I wanted to see how you’d handle it.”

You leaned against your desk, arms crossed, trying to suppress the whirlwind of emotions boiling inside you. “What’s the first trial?” you demanded, ready to hear how she planned to **** you next.

With a playful tilt of her head, she replied, “You need to convince the prestigious all-girls sorority, Pi Beta Phi, to let in one of my favorite mortals.”

“What?” Liam blurted, eyes wide. “Wait, a sorority? How do you expect us to get anywhere near them? They only let in hot smart women!”

You shot him an incredulous look, your frustration rising. “That’s the point, you idiot!"

Aphrodite’s eyes sparkled with delight as she watched the exchange. “Exactly, my dear. You need to pass as a girl to even get in there. You’re catching on!”

Liam frowned, still struggling to grasp the situation. “But how are you supposed to pass? You look like... well, you, but you can’t charm anyone if you sound like a dude!”

You clenched your jaw, frustration bubbling beneath the surface. “Thanks for the reminder, Liam,” you shot back, trying to keep your cool.

Aphrodite leaned forward, her smile teasing. “Oh, I have no doubt you’ll have to learn how to blend in—makeup, outfits, the whole shebang. It’ll be a delightful transformation!”

At the thought of makeup and frilly clothes, you felt your blood pressure spike. “No way in hell, I’m not doing that!” you exclaimed, but your voice cracked a little, betraying the rising tide of panic.

“Come on, it could be fun! I could help you with a few tricks to get a head start!” Aphrodite teased, her tone light and inviting.

Liam nodded enthusiastically, clearly on board with the idea. “That could be good. Maybe you can, like, teach him how to blend in better."

You shot them both a glare. “No! Absolutely not! I’m not turning into some—some... fashion project!”

Aphrodite’s laughter rang out, echoing in the room. “Oh, but I could make this so much easier for you! Just think—what if I called in a favor or two from Theodon? I could alter reality, change a few things about your body, maybe your voice, too...”

That was it. Rage flared inside you. “You think this is funny? You’re just going to mess with me some more?” You glared at her, frustration spilling over into a stream of cuss words. “You’re a fucking lunatic! This is bullshit! What kind of goddess gets her kicks from ruining someone’s life? You think it’s all a joke, don’t you? A stupid fucking game!”

Aphrodite simply smiled, clearly amused by your outburst. “Oh, darling, you really shouldn’t get so worked up. I’m just having fun.”

And just like that, she snapped her fingers again, and you felt a strange sensation wash over you. “Hey!” you shouted, the new lilt in your voice mocking you. “What the hell did you do to me?!”

The pitch of your voice changed, becoming softer, more feminine, and instantly, you knew it was permanent.

Aphrodite burst into laughter, clearly delighted with her handiwork. “There! Now it matches your appearance. Just think of it as an early adaptation to your new life. You’ll thank me later!”

“I’ll thank you when hell freezes over!” you spat, your temper reaching its boiling point.

Liam stood there, eyes wide in shock, caught somewhere between concern and amusement. “Dude, your voice is so high-pitched now! This is insane!”

“Yeah, thanks for the update, genius!” you shot back, crossing your arms in irritation.

Aphrodite clapped her hands, the sound bright and cheerful. “Oh, I can’t wait to see how you handle this trial. It’s going to be absolutely fabulous! Just imagine the fun we’re going to have.”

You groaned internally, trying to process the absurdity of the situation. “This is a nightmare,” you muttered, a sense of dread settling in your stomach.

With a flick of her wrist, Aphrodite stood, her smile never fading. “Now, are you ready to embrace your new life, darling? Or will you continue to fight against the inevitable?”

You exchanged glances with Liam, who seemed to be processing everything far better than you were. “I guess we’ll see how it goes,” you muttered, your heart sinking as you contemplated the trials ahead.

“Fantastic!” Aphrodite chirped, a mischievous glint in her eyes. “Let the games begin!”

And with that, the weight of the trials began to settle heavily on your shoulders, a daunting reminder of what lay ahead.

The room hung thick with tension after Aphrodite’s playful show of power, the air still buzzing from your recent outburst. You sat on the edge of your desk, fuming, still reeling from the change in your voice and the helplessness that clawed at you. Liam, standing a little too casually next to Aphrodite, broke the silence first.

“So… uh, I gotta ask,” Liam started, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. “What were you even doing at Paris Texas? Like, why were you there pretending to be a mortal? And why that form?”

Aphrodite’s eyes twinkled, clearly amused by Liam’s curiosity. She sat back down on your bed, smoothing out the fabric of her shimmering floral sundress. “Oh, Liam,” she said sweetly, patting the space next to her, “come sit with me. You ask such interesting questions.”

Liam blinked but didn’t hesitate, walking over and sitting right next to the goddess. You clenched your fists, teeth grinding as you watched them from your perch, unable to shake the fury boiling inside. But there was no way you were about to speak, not with your new voice.

Aphrodite leaned back, folding her legs gracefully. “To answer your question,” she began, “I like to spend time among mortals every now and then. Keeps things fresh, reminds me of the little pleasures in life—like clubs, drinks, sex, and watching overconfident boys make fools of themselves.”

She shot a glance in your direction, and you felt the heat of her gaze burn into you. You looked away, seething, but kept quiet.

Liam, oblivious to your rage, was hanging on her every word. “But why Serena? Why that form?” he asked, leaning forward with genuine interest.

Aphrodite chuckled softly. “Oh, that’s just one of my many disguises. I’ve got plenty, but I choose my form based on the setting. And let’s be real—at a place like Paris Texas, the best way to blend in is to look like someone every guy thinks he can get lucky with.”

Liam raised an eyebrow. “So you wanted to get hit on?”

“Not particularly,” she replied with a shrug. “But it does make for some amusing moments, like last night when he decided to be a complete ass.” She flicked her eyes to you again, smirking as if relishing the memory.

You bit down hard on your lip, the reminder of last night’s humiliation still raw.

Liam, undeterred, continued. “And how do you control how people look? Like, you gave him—” he gestured toward you awkwardly “—a whole new… situation. How’s that even possible?”

Aphrodite laughed, the sound light and airy. “Liam, sweet boy, I’m a goddess. I don’t control reality so much as mold it. I can do whatever I want. Change looks, change minds, change destinies. And last night, I decided to teach your dear friend here a lesson. One that’s long overdue.”

Liam nodded slowly, his eyes wide with awe. “Okay, but why him? I mean, out of everyone, why did you choose to mess with Lucas?”

Aphrodite’s smile faded slightly as she regarded you with a more serious expression. “Oh, I’ve had my eye on him for a while,” she admitted. “Last night wasn’t just random. I’ve been watching his little antics, the way he treats women, the dismissiveness, the arrogance. And I knew it was only a matter of time before he’d cross my path directly. So, when he decided to insult me last night, well…” She paused, her lips curling into a wicked smile. “Let’s just say he made my job a lot easier.”

Liam glanced at you with a look of mild shock, but also sympathy. “Dude, she’s been watching you for a while.”

You didn’t meet his eyes, feeling the weight of Aphrodite’s words sink in. It wasn’t just the insult last night—this curse had been in the works for longer than you could’ve imagined.

Aphrodite, clearly enjoying the attention from Liam, leaned closer to him, her hand lightly brushing against his knee. “You’ve been a good boy, though,” she cooed, her voice soft and sweet. “You’re not the one in trouble here.”

Liam flushed slightly at the compliment, his eyes darting to where her hand rested. “Uh, thanks, I guess?”

She giggled and lightly patted his knee. “Now, I’ll need you to keep this little ‘good girl’ in line for me,” she said, casting a pointed look in your direction. “Can you do that?”

Liam, still clearly entranced by her, nodded without hesitation. “Yeah, sure,” he agreed, his voice laced with a strange eagerness.

Aphrodite grinned and leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek. “Good boy,” she whispered. Liam’s face lit up like a Christmas tree, and you felt your stomach churn with a mixture of rage and disbelief.

She then turned her gaze back to you, her expression shifting from warmth to cold, unfiltered disgust. “As for you,” she said, standing and crossing her arms, “don’t forget the consequences if you try to defy me. I’ll be watching.”

You glared back at her, your mouth opening to retaliate, but the threat of your new voice kept you silent.

“Oh, and one more thing,” she added, her lips curling into a mischievous smirk. “You should probably switch out of those boxers and go shopping for some panties instead. Boxers really don’t suit you anymore, do they?”

Before you could even form a coherent thought to respond, she snapped her fingers and disappeared in a swirl of shimmering light, leaving the room unnervingly silent.

You sat there, fists clenched, staring at the spot where she had just stood, fuming in a mix of frustration and helplessness.

Liam, still reeling from the kiss, turned to you with wide eyes. “Dude, did she just tell you to go buy panties?”

You glared at him, still trying to hold onto whatever remained of your dignity. “Don’t,” you warned, your voice shaky with barely-contained anger.

Liam held up his hands in surrender, but the look on his face told you he was definitely going to bring it up again later.
