Timmy (Tim) Brown - 27 App Beta Tester

Tim, short for Timmy, was on his lunch break from work. He was checking his phone for anything new. Then he got a notification for an email. It was for him to beta test a new app. He often gets emails like this. Many companies like to use him and others to test their apps before they become available to the public. He gets a lot of money on finding bugs, but sometimes it takes a while for a new app to be sent. That’s why he’s currently working at a grocery store as a cashier. So when he got an email to test a new app, he was excited that he’d get some extra cash soon.

When he opened the email, he noticed that it was different from the others. It usually had the name of the company with an attachment of agreements he had to follow. This email had a message saying that he could use the Role ReWriter app as much as he wanted and if there were any problems, send all complaints to the email below. Part of him was worried that the email was a virus, but he really wanted the extra cash. He decided to tap the link in the email and hoped that everything would be fine. The link led him to the site where the app would be downloaded. After second-guessing himself, he pressed confirm to download the app. It didn't tell him how long the app would take to download, so he pocketed his phone away. Then finished his break.

He finally finished working after a long day and his boss, Cora Ross, had him stack the heavy shelves before he could leave. She always gives him hard tasks at the end of the day. He was glad that the next two days would be his days off. Before he drove home, he pulled out his phone and checked to see if the app had finished downloading. He was happy that it was done and his phone didn’t alert him of any viruses. Tapping the app icon to start it, the screen becomes light blue with the name of the app at the top.

A message popped up saying, “Hello, you have been selected for the private beta of the Role ReWriter. This phenomenal new app will help you change the world to what you see fit.”

After pressing the okay button, another message popped up with a list of all its commands.

• Assign: Give a subject of your choice a new role in your life.
• Swap: Swap roles between two subjects.
• Morph: Change the physical form or properties of a subject.
• Mind Control: Alter the mental state of a subject, if applicable.
• Fuse: Combine two subjects. (Warning, still experimental, use with caution!!!)

He didn’t understand everything that he read, yet he hoped that it would become clear after he used it. After closing the message, there were five buttons on the screen. Not being picky, he tapped a random button and it was Swap. It asked for two names before continuing. He typed in his name, but he couldn't think of another's. He thought about using one of his coworkers' names. There wasn’t anyone that came to mind. Just as he was going to head home, he saw Cora walking to her car. He quickly typed in her name. Then another message asked which roles were to be swapped. It gave him a list of the roles that Tim and Cora had. He chose the role of Employee for himself and the role of Manager for her. He pressed yes to confirm his choice. He didn’t know what to expect but wanted something to happen. Unfortunately, nothing happens. He decided to close the app and go home. He was going to try other features tomorrow.
