Time to head home

Emid has had a big night. He was glad to celebrate even if he wasn't very popular among his new colleagues. Most were pleasant enough and it was nice to have a celebration in his honor. However, he would start properly apprenticing tomorrow and did not want to make mistakes. Besides, he wanted to get up early to talk to his mom, Kati, and sister, Eso, tomorrow before heading to shadow Sebo, his mentor. His mom was also employed in castle security as an administrator, specifically planning patrols and schedules for both daily use, special events, and travel. He thought she may have some advice and perhaps encouragement. Kati was very organized and hardworking, but also kind and helpful.

Eso was starting her second year of apprenticeship with the castle physician. He knew she would be upset if he came home late, drunk, and noisy. Therefor now was the time to head to bed. The siblings had to share a room. His oldest sister, Eba, had moved away due to her recent assignment to a border village. Soon he would be moving there, but they had not cleared out Eba's belongings. The bed had been broken and needed replacing anyways. Disposing of furniture in the castle could be complicated since they tried to reuse parts, they needed to wait until the craftmasters were available to assess what can be used. He got to his room and saw Eso sleeping peacefully. He drifted off to sleep feeling like things were going well.

He awoke to a soft hand gently shaking his shoulder. His mother was looking down at him with a smile. His sister had gotten up and was getting dressed behind her screen to head to the staff and servant's mess hall for breakfast. Kati told him "congratulations! I hope you didn't stay out to late last night celebrating. I'm sure you will do a great job. Sebo is a good man and I'm sure you will learn a lot at his side". Emid replied "thanks ma. I heard from my friends that apprenticeship usually starts with menial, boring tasks like fetching items and taking notes that are put into a book that nobody will ever read". Kati comforted him and grabbed his hands "that is true. You need to take those tasks seriously and you may have to do them later. But if you do well, you will get more trust and more serious responsibilities quickly". That was not very helpful, but he understood and he stood and thanked his mom. Kati went to her room to get dressed and Emid did the same before he went to the mess hall and then to meet Sebo outside the kitchen where they were to begin their patrol.
