Chapter 4 by Lilyflier Lilyflier

What's next?

Thomas did some thinking. (Nerdy)

Hey, Lilyflier typing. Disclaimer, I'm a nerd. I go into probably way too much detail on how the next couple days go and how Thomas overcomes extremely dangerous and irreversible problems which could arise while using his curse either intentionally or unintentionally.

If you want to skip straight to the next point where things get hot, use this link.

The implications of his little experiments were astonishing, but more than that, they were a new source for anxiety. Thomas realized that if he made a mistake in sharing a particular idea he didn't want to share, it could stick with him for the rest of his life. As fantastic an idea as something like "Give Thomas Peterson a blowjob." might seem on paper, if 8 billion people were to learn of this idea and all find it brilliant, he would have people of practically all types going out of their way to try to give him a blowjob. If the perceived brilliance of the idea was potent enough, people might even kill one another for an opportunity to partake in it.

Nay, it was worse than that, the entire world would collapse if people decided to leave what they were doing to partake in such an idea! Thomas would have to be _extremely _careful with what ideas he shared with people. This curse was going to be much worse than he thought...

He decided to leave work for good. He could do practically anything to solve his financial needs as long as he took sufficient precautions, and an inkling of an idea was forming in his mind for how to minimize the probability of making a severe blunder.

As he walked out the glass doors of the building for the last time, he took in a deep breath of what smog surely hung in the air and began making his way home, making sure to avoid saying a single word to anyone on his way there. Once he was home, he locked all entrances and laid down on a sofa to think.

He had dreams, massive dreams from this which he knew wouldn't dissipate no matter what he did. He had to figure out a way to explore such dreams without risking the end of the world every time he used this newfound power, and he knew enough to have at least a small idea of how little he knew. His first primary objective would have to be finding a sustainable source of knowledge on what ideas would work and what ones wouldn't without major adverse side effects.

The thought of using an idea to take control of massive amounts of computational power to make an AI assistant was a tempting one, but he didn't know if this newfound ability would apply to non-human subjects. And there wouldn't be an easy way to test out whether or not it really did work, since he imagined simple AI probably wouldn't be sufficient if it did work and recruiting a complex AI immediately would run the risk of the AI being conscious of the situation and merely acting as though it considered such ideas to be brilliant so that it could achieve other ends.

No, he would need to use his newfound abilities on creatures he could more accurately predict the behavior of, he could try it on animals but continuing to use it on humans was the most sure bet. So perhaps he could task the most intelligent people in the world with ensuring his antics wouldn't result in terrible outcomes. Yes! That would have to do!

He suddenly sat up and grabbed a pen and a sheet of paper, writing down different variations on the same general message...

"I have an idea, the top 1% most intelligent and knowledgeable people should work together to ensure that Thomas Peterson is as free as possible, and also that when he wants, he can contact such intelligent and knowledgeable people and request anything of them, and in these cases they should do practically everything they can to fulfill his requests."

He fell asleep trying to account for every semantic problem that could arise. When he awoke, he felt he had done as well as he could in the time he'd given it, and he could wait no longer to attempt spreading this idea. So he unlocked his front door and stepped outside, and the first person he spotted walking along the sidewalk received an idea which would eventually be nurtured into the first of many radical global changes.
