The rope maker’s family (Brenyn and Aislinn’s family)

Arthek is married to Muirne and is the village rope maker. He has a close relationship with the horse keeper, as he uses horse hairs to make his ropes. Tying all those hairs into a long rope is quite time intensive so he keeps quite busy. But if the horse keeper is not able to provide him with any hair, Arthek helps out his fellow villagers. Be it either as a repairman to fix someone’s roof or fence, or an extra helper during sheep shearing or harvest season.

Muirne is Arthek’s wife and a very busy mother. Her first son, Keiryn, was a very active child and needed a lot of attention. Same for Aislinn and Brenyn. Muirne thanked the gods for the day Keiryn became old enough to develop a sense of concern over his siblings and matured enough to help take care of the little troublemakers. Yet now that her kids are all grown up, she has grandchildren she needs to help take care of.

Keiryn is Arthek and Muirna’s oldest child and originally worked as a farmhand at farmer Maclain’s farm. There he met and became friends with the eldest daughter, Jenna. She very much appreciated his presence on the farm, as he was the only other person her age. Eventually they fell in love but were worried farmer Maclain would not approve his daughter’s union to Keiryn. So, they made a plan. On Samhain, Keiryn would stay close enough to the path that he could see a girl walking along. He would then mimic an owl. If the girl replied with “It sure is lonely on this path” that would mean the girl is Jenna. Then Keiryn could come out of hiding, Jenna would stray from the path straight into his arms, and they would try to have a Samhain child. The first time, they met successfully but Jenna didn’t get pregnant, so they had to try again the next year. The second time they tried, they were successful and Jenna was carrying Keiryn’s Samhain child. Now Jenna’s farther could no longer object.
But that is not the end, for later it was discovered that Jenna was carrying twins. This made it so Jenna and Keiryn produced 2 Samhain children at once. Making Maclain very proud of both his daughter and his son in law.

Jenna is the oldest daughter of farmer Maclain, who owns one of the two farms. With Jenna being a whole 9 years older than her siblings, it has always been very hard for her to have someone she could relate with. That changed when Keiryn started working on the farm. He was a friendly guy the same age as her, and she quickly bonded with him. Enough that she wanted to be his wife, but she also feared that her father would never permit her marrying a mere farmhand. That is when Jenna came up with the idea to have Keiryn impregnate her with a Samhain child. It was a risky thing to do, as it is always possible someone else catches her during Samhain. So, the lovers agreed to meet each other at the path. Jenna would follow the path and every time she heard an owl hoot, she would say “It sure is lonely on this path”. If Keiryn was nearby, he would then come out of hiding, so Jenna could stray from the path straight into his arms. The first time, Jenna didn’t succeed at getting pregnant. But the second time, she not only got his Samhain child. She ended up getting Keiryn’s Samhain twins. Providing twice the normal amount of Samhain children made Jena’s father very proud of her and he agreed her union with Keiryn was destined.

Alys & Allon are the twin children of Keiryn and Jenna. They were conceived in Jenna’s womb during Samhain, which means the souls of these kids have already lived once before and are now living an extra life. Both their parents and grandparents have high hopes for them.

Aislinn is Arthek and Muirne’s second child and apprentices as a shoemaker. She has previously been in a relationship with Kanin, the smith’s son and also the village’s smith apprentice. Aislinn wanted to have a Samhain child, similar as her brother did. So, she made plans with Kanin to meet her during Samhain. But it was new moon that night and very hard to see. Aislinn did come across a guy whom she thought was Kanin and had sex with him, but later she discovered it was the marshal’s son instead. Kanin too came across a girl which he though was his lover, Aislinn, and came inside her. But he later discovered it was his sister. What’s even worse, is that his sister ended up with his Samhain child. As a result of that, Kanin was **** to get married to his older sister.
Aislinn had a hard time processing this, especially since Kanin’s sister apprenticed under her father so she now regularly sees the woman who stole her man. And while Kanin cared about his sister, he didn’t love her. Not like he loved Aislinn. Aislinn tried to accept this new reality, partially by avoiding Kanin’s sister whenever she is working in her dad’s workshop. Which was the perfect time to meet up with Kanin. It was hard and eventually, Aislinn couldn’t handle it anymore and seduced Kanin. For a while, Aislinn made Kanin cheat on his wife. An easy thing to do since she always knew when Kanin’s wife was working, and it made her feel pleased with herself that she had her man back. But eventually, Aislinn got pregnant. When she told Kanin, he was not fine with it and didn’t want to accept responsibility. Aislinn then got angry and told the village elders. But she could not gain any sympathy from them. They declared her in the wrong, for she knew Kanin’s Samhain child meant that he was fated to be husband to his sister and breaking that marriage would spell misfortune. That is when Aislinn accepted defeat and gave up on Kanin entirely.
Times were hard for Aislinn then. The shoemaker that she was apprenticing under declared her a slut and unworthy to enter his workshop and so refused to teach her any more. She now had to either choose a different apprenticeship and start from scratch or set up her own workplace where she continues making shoes. Fortunately, Aislinn could count on her mother to help her through her time as a single mother. Aislinn also tried to find another man to get married to, but none of the men wanted to get married to a woman who already had another man’s child. As such, her best chance at getting a husband, lies in catching a man during Samhain and taking his Samhain child.

Kanin is the village smith’s second child and oldest son. A few years back he was in a relationship with Aislinn, and he planned on giving her his Samhain child. But their plan went wrong and instead he gave a Samhain child to his sister, forcing him to get married to her. While Kanin does care for his sister, he doesn’t love her and despite being married, continued yearning to be with Aislinn. The feeling was mutual and eventually, Aislinn seduced him and he gave in to her. For a while, Kanin felt quite happy at being with his lover again, while fucking his wife on the side. But that was ruined when Aislinn got pregnant. There was no way he could leave his sister for Aislinn. Not with a Samhain child involved. And so, he decided it was better for him to cut himself off from Aislinn. It saddens him to abandon Aislinn like that, as well as the daughter he has with her. But choosing Aislinn over his wife would have angered the ancestors. That is something he could not do.

Alyn is Aislinn’s bastard daughter with Kanin. She is only 2 years old and far too young to understand anything about her mother’s complicated relationship with the man who fathered her. But she has grandparents and two uncles who help take care of her.

Brenyn is Arthek and Muirne’s youngest child. When he was a teenager and started getting into girls, his eye fell on Maire, the hunter’s youngest daughter. But he was unable to get her to notice him. That is why Brenyn decided to apprentice as a hunter. It is so he can get closer to Maire. It certainly helped in him forming a friendship with her, but the girl sees him more as a target for her pranks than a lover. When Maire came of age, she decided to apprentice under her father as well. Yet, that didn’t help him much. By now Brenyn feels that, if he is going to get with Maire in the way he wants to, catching her at Samhain may very well be the only way. Although Maire has proven herself to be a hard one to catch. Every year, Brenyn tries to catch Maire, and every year he catches a girl. But every year, it turns out he caught the wrong girl. Having his focus be on Maire, Brenyn then always tries to pull out or otherwise prevent himself from risking pregnancy on the girl he caught.
