The public restroom

Lucy blinks a few times to make sure she isn't hallucinating. In the mirror, Lucy sees stalls and a familiar red and white tile pattern behind her. She thought she had been in the back of the store, but Cassy had only taken her to the public restroom.

Lucy paces nervously. She is practically naked in the public restroom that anyone can walk into. There's no way to know if someone is coming. All Lucy knows is the longer she stays here, the more risk there is of a customer showing up. In fact, someone could have already shown up. No time to be dwelling on that though.

Lucy approaches the door and takes a peek outside. No one in sight. She doesn't even see Cassy or Kate. Did they both go to the back?

She takes one cautious step out. Still no one.

A few more small steps take her completely out of the restroom and she stands against the wall. The rain drums against the roof of the dimly lit diner.

Lucy takes a few apprehensive steps into the diner. The whole place is really quite gloomy, but it only makes Lucy's heart beat faster as she continues further. At the point she is now, she can no longer retreat back into the bathroom should someone come in the store.

"The back's not that far away," Lucy tells herself, trying to break the silence. "This is no problem."

However, as she speaks these words to herself, she suddenly hears a noise.
