The one place you didn't expect...

A rock and a hard place.

You had a three day deadline, and the only good news is that you AREN'T at the destination yet. You were not only late, but multiple prisoners were missing. Which meant that, should you arrive now, it meant severe punishment or... worse. You sigh, trying to think of a plan as you were downing some hard wine when one of the Sendaki Guards approaches you.

"Well, get moving constable! We have a place to be."

Another Sendaki Guard, however, shakes their head. "Bullshit."

The First Sendaki Guard seemed stunned. "What?" To which the second explained. "You do realize, if we keep moving... we're dead too."

The First one blinked, tilting his head. It was as though he couldn't figure out why they would be executed. The Second continued to speak. "We failed to get the constable to his destination on time. We screwed up too."

The First Sendaki guard asked then "So... What do we do?"

It was then some of the prisoners began to talk amongst each other, one had an idea. "Well, I don't wanna die without a fight. Since we're all pretty much doomed, why don't we run into the mountains and forests... Try to survive, anyways."

The Third Sendaki Guard began to run up the road, as though he was going to the designated area, but to everyone's surpise, an arrow from the fourth guard flew out after the third guard. Needless to say what happened there. The Fourth spoke up. "Anyone else feel like running?"

It was then you had an idea and decided to speak up, a buzz flowing over you. "Hang on. We don't have many options, and the prisoner over there made a very good point. Why don't we take off into the mountains, together? It's not just us who will end up executed, but probably our families too if the Sendaki catch us showing up for work. But as long as they don't know for sure if we are alive or not... theoretically, they might have their hands tied. They can't execute people related to a missing person, it's against their own laws."

The First guard then had to ask. "So who then hell is gonna lead us."

The Second guard suggested you. "Why not the constable?"

The First would seemed shocked again. "Are you broken? We're gonna make this guy our leader?"

The Second shrugged. "I mean, think about it, he'd actually got more experience leading people than anyone else here. He's the logical option. He's also been way nicer to the prisoners than most people I've seen, and some of them briefly smile as he walks by. It's worth a shot."

You feign a sense of humbleness and reply "Well, if you'd have me, I can lead us until we get a base set up."
