Chapter 25
by
Decadent Empire
What's next?
The next day
Dean wakes up to find Brooke still soundly asleep next to him. He feels an odd sense of dissapointment. Regardless, he continues his normal routine getting ready for work, expecting to hear his door open, then close, then the same for Richard's, but nothing happens. In fact, right before he leaves for work, he checks his bedroom to find Brooke still sleeping soundly. It's all he thinks about on the way to work. Was there nothing on the agenda today? Was she too tired to do anything? He would have continued that line of thought all day, but a busy day at work kept his mind occupied. He didn't give it a second thought until he was nearly home.
He arrives home like he always does, parks and heads inside. He heads to the kitchen, no Brooke but that sometimes happens but no food? She didn’t make Dean dinner today. Where is she?
Dean reaches the bottom of the stairs and can see Richards door is wide open... that’s weird. He runs up the stairs and wakes into Richard’s room, he isn’t there. That’s also weird... Dean notices his room seems to be cleaner too. The plan is working? Dean turns and heads to his room, no sign of Brooke.
Lastly he runs downstairs and checks her office and finds her sitting behind her desk. “You’re home already? What time is it? Oh shoot.” She seems overwhelmed. “I’m sorry I lost track of time and didn’t make dinner. I have good news though!” Disgruntled from no dinner Dean lazily says, “What is it?” Brooke excitedly explains that she is working with a company is China to produce her clothes! She continues talking. It’s huge news, but the negative is she has to work during working hours in China which is a 12 hour difference starting next week. Dean beams as he congragulates her, even as the question of whether or not she did anything with Richard today lingers at the back of his mind.
“Do you know where Richard is?” Dean asks curiously. Brooke pauses for a second, “His parents picked him up this morning, I guess he is doing something with them today." Another odd note to an odd day. Dean can do nothing but shrug as he makes dinner for himself. Brooke stays in her office, apparently having to do a lot of work to get her new partnership up and running. Richard arrives back home, and doesn't say a word, going straight up to his room and closing the door a little more forcefully than he does normally.
After a while Dean tires of sitting downstaira alone and goes to bed, absent mindely scrolling through facebook. Brooke finally arrives, happy and tired. "All done?" Dean asks.
"Yep! Took me a lot longer than I thought at first. It'll be so worth it, though. This is a dream come true." Shedding her clothes, she changes into a oversized shirt and shorts for bed.
"That's great to hear babe. Sure you didn't... forget anything today?" He asks pointedly.
She frowns, "No, I don't think so. I set up everything I needed to for-" she suddenly pauses as something comes to her mind. "Fuck! Uh, there is one thing I still need to do. Don't wait up for me, okay?" Brooke plants a kiss on Dean's cheek and practically runs out of the room.
What did Brooke forget?
