The marshal and shepherd families (Riannon’s family)

Treston is the village marshal. The man who stops fights between the villagers and settles disputes. As the village marshal, Treston is therefore the only person in the village who owns two chainmail shirt and two swords. Which were passed on to him by the previous marshal and he himself will eventually pass on to the next marshal. While it is not necessary for the profession of marshal to get passed on from father to son, Treston would prefer for his son to become the next marshal. Due to his job as marshal, Treston takes position as one of the elders of the village and is partially responsible for setting up the laws and customs of the village.

Shailey is Treston’s wife and spends most of her time cooking and cleaning or washing clothes at the river with the other housewives. She and Treston first got together in their teenage years. While Treston wanted to marry her before her first Samhain, Shailey told him she had always looked forward to the bonfire. After a long discussion, Treston decided to trust that Shailey would not stray from the path, which she didn’t. Seeing her come back to him while still wearing her necklace made him very happy and they married shortly after.

Killean is Treston and Shailey’s son and only child. From a young age, Treston has been telling his son about the importance of laws and for everyone to follow them. In time, Killean started to see upholding the laws as a family duty and adopted his father’s way of thinking. He started training with a wooden sword and memorized the laws of the village. Nowadays, he works as the marshal’s apprentice and helps settle disputes between the villagers. As such, he is one of the only two people who gets to wear a chainmail and use a sword, though both belong to the current marshal. Killean only gets to borrow them.
While in the past, Killean only participated in the Samhain event when it suited him, these days he is no longer permitted to participate. For last year, he caught the shepherd’s youngest daughter, Bodicca and gave her his Samhain child. As a result, him and Bodicca are now married, joining the families of the marshal and the shepherd.

Innis originally apprenticed to becoming a rope maker, but when Quinn gave her his Samhain child she had to change a lot of things in her life. Including her chosen profession. Her husband had a hard time adjusting to the life of a villager, so the least she could do was be with him and help him adjust. At first, she would join him on his shepherding trips, which was great as they would be away from the village for a while and could engage in romance away from prying eyes. That again changed when her pregnancy advanced too far and also when she had to take care of the kids. That is when she adjusted to becoming a spinner and turned the wool her husband’s sheep produced into yarn

Quinn is the village shepherd and the only villager who was not born in the village. He was born among a traveler clan. A nomadic tribe who traverses the land from one village to another. Their business is trade and transportation. The great wide outdoors is their home and the starry night their roof.
When Quinn first learned of this village’s Samhain custom, he was too young to participate. The following 5 years, he kept thinking about it, and the consequences of getting a girl pregnant. When eventually his clan came back here, Quinn was still undecided about any Samhian children. But he was certain that he would get himself some free pussy. He was lucky and caught himself a pretty girl named Innis. They had sex and he left his seed inside her womb, leaving the chance of a Samhain child to fate. Fate decided he would have one.
At first, living in this village, in a house instead of a wagon, was interesting to Quinn, and he liked it quite a lot. But in time the call for wanderlust came to him and he started feeling restless. Quinn asked the elders for advice and they suggested him a job that needed him to traverse a lot. The compromise became for him to apprentice as a shepherd. This way, Quinn could take the sheep on a long grazing trip, sometimes lasting several days. It helped calm his desire for traveling somewhat, but this is a part of him that will never go away.

Riannon is the first daughter of Quinn and innis and also their Samhain child. Riannon always enjoyed spending time with the sheep, which motivated her to copy her father and play shepherd at an early age. While many people wanted her to study being a druid or a scribe, the elders figured that her insistence on wanting to spend time with the sheep betrayed that she would have been a shepherd in a past life. So, they permitted Riannon to follow her heart and become a shepherd. Their feelings were proven right, as she was able to spot when a sheep in their flock was sick or wounded before others did and figured out ways to help the animals heal. Whenever the horse keeper or cattle farmer have issues with their animals, they ask Riannon to come over and check them out and usually she figures out what’s going on and advises on the appropriate treatment.
Riannon is a girl who quickly gets startled, but it also gives her an adrenaline rush, which makes it so she actually enjoys being scared. When the time came for Riannon to participate with the bonfire, she was more than happy to stray. It allowed her to have some fun without having to be labeled a slut. Unfortunately, the shepherding trips she makes with her father make it so she can’t really hold a relationship. But Riannon has been fine with that, up until the day her younger sister received a Samhain child. As the oldest, Riannon always thought she would get married first, get pregnant first, get children first. Yet now, those certainties for her have all been cast aside. What’s worse is that the guy who impregnated her little sister is the same guy that took her virginity at her first Samhain. So now Riannon is decided to not slack off any more and head towards the next stage of her life, with Samhain child if necessary.

Bodicca is the second daughter of Quinn and innis. While her older sister looked up to their dad, Bodicca was always more interested in spending time with her mother. It is for this reason that Bodicca started helping her mother spinning the sheep’s wool into yarn at an early age. Another reason she did so is because when the weaver came to pick it up, he sometimes brought his son Rowen along, and she kindof had a crush on him. She was quite dismayed when Rowen got into a relationship with Cerridwen, but she still hoped that maybe she could catch him by straying at Samhain. Instead, she got caught by Killean. Not a bad match, though she had not expected to get pregnant on her first time, and certainly not by a guy who once fucked her sister.

Kyna is Bodicca and Killean’s daughter and their Samhain child. The little girl is only 3 months old yet is already expected to do great things when she gets older.
