The lie begins

Emily drives home swiftly, shaken by the events of the day but full of nervous energy about this crazy plan for her anniversary. "This is crazy, I can't believe I'm going to do this" she thinks as she drives through empty streets on this Saturday afternoon, it felt like her whole life was being flipped upside down but she could tell in her heart that her and Martin would come out of this closer than ever.

Martin was lying on the couch he had taken his walk and was now just waiting, for both his wife to get home and for 5pm so he could pick up his laptop, he hears the telltale sign of Emily pulling up outside the house. Martin hears Emily enter the house and gets up to greet her, "hey babe, did you get what you needed from the shops", now Emily had been unsuccessful in shopping but still had gotten the anniversary gift that she had been needing to get. Emily shrugs "not really, but I did find something pretty interesting while I was there", Martin's curiosity is peaked "oh what's that?" he asks raising an eyebrow.

Emily pauses for just a second to make sure she delivers the next part with conviction, "so you know that book series, I've been reading?" , Martin knows it pretty well, Emily was a keen reader, "yeah what about it?" "Well the publishing company behind it is doing some reading sessions on them, sort of like a book club" she says making sure to sound as eager as possible to really sell this "and well I think it would be so fun getting to talk about them to other people who are into them" Martin lets out a soft chuckle, Emily did love talking about what she was reading; over the years he had probably had the synopsis' of every book she read, "well if it keeps you from chewing my ear off about them then I'm all for it" he jokes back. Emily breaks out into a huge grin, Martin thinks it's because she's going to get to talk something she's very passionate about, but really it's because he is buying her lie. Emily then explains that the sessions will be every Saturday at midday for the next 3 weeks, she also said that they had the hall booked for the whole day so she had no idea how long the meetings would be, Martin grumbles slightly at the fact that he wouldn't be seeing much of his wife on the weekends for this month but he knew how passionate Emily was and would never try and deny her from doing this.

Before long Martin leaves to go pick up his repaired laptop, while he's gone Emily pours herself a glass of wine and begins cooking dinner, she couldn't help but feel a little guilty about lying to Martin but she knew this would be worth the guilt. As she chops the mushrooms for the risotto she was making she finally has a moment to think about what she wanted, now obviously she wanted to do this to make Martin happy, but this was the first time she really had a moment to reflect. A part of her didn't want to sleep with anyone else, I mean even though this was something Martin wanted she still felt unsure about it, but another part of her was curious she hadn't slept with anyone other than Martin since before they met and it was an intriguing idea to sleep with someone else someone different.
