Chapter 5 by dr_wankenstein dr_wankenstein

Where are Amy and Rosa?

The library... on Halloween!

If there was one thing Amy Santiago knew for sure, it was that there was no such thing as ghosts.

She glanced around the dusty aisles. Bookshelves towered high over her head, reaching up almost to the high ceilings of the library basement. It felt like nobody had been down here in years.

Amy took a cautious step forward, mentally preparing herself for something to jump out at her. Normally, working at the library would be a dream come true for her. Looking for clues in books, questioning librarians, practicing being quiet - she couldn't think of anything more fun. But scouring the basement wasn't exactly what she'd expected when Holt had put her on the case.

"Scared, Santiago?"

Amy jumped at the sound, and was instantly annoyed with herself. Rosa, standing a few feet behind her, smirked.

"Of course not," she snapped. "I was just being careful."

"Careful of what? There's nothing down here."

"We could be looking for an intruder. Or a stray cat."

"Or..."

"What?"

"A... g-g-g-ghost?"

"I'm not scared of ghosts!"

"That's not what Jake told me," said Rosa. "He told me that after our movie night, you had to sleep with a light on for a week."

"It was a scary movie!"

"Ghostbusters?"

"The green guy creeps me out, okay?" Amy shuddered. "Anyway, ghosts aren't real. So it doesn't matter if I'm scared of them or not."

"You're not frightened?"

"No."

"Not even a little bit?"

"Nuh-uh."

"Even though the librarian was absolutely sure it was a ghost?"

"Nope."

"And it's Halloween? The night when the dead walk the earth?"

"Rosa, shush, okay?"

"Huh, you're really scared, aren't you?"

"No! I just... think I heard something."

"It was probably nothing," said Rosa, looking around. "I can't see a single..."

The lights went out.
