The cart is heading out of town completely, it seems no closer to stopping than when Maia first started following it.
Whatever this beast is, it's perfectly designed for the specific job that it performs. It moves at a methodical pace, never slowing or tiring. Other than actively pulling the cart, Maia wasn't even sure she had seen it move.
The path the cart is traveling down requires a full day of travel. Maia knows that it's the smart move to turn back now.
