Chapter 107

What's next?
The answers.
It was probably the most awkward silent walk of my life. We walked out of the coffee shop to the place the girls had their cars parked.
A stray thought, but it seemed inefficient to me that they'd use three cars to move around. Three parking spots, more money on gas… But I guess they each went to school in their cars and had their morning routine. I think that even if I had a car, I'd still walk the 20 minutes to school.
It was dumb to think of that at that moment, but I needed to keep my mind away from the heavy silence. I'd said my piece but still no answer. Well, Mila said yes already, but… It seemed like this was something they had talked about beforehand. Or hadn't, more like. Like they'd agreed to something and I'd thrown a wrench in the plan.
Just… Breathe Oliver, breathe. Don't think the worst, don't assume the best. There's no answer yet, and the girls want to have a proper talk about it. It was already better than the worst case scenario, which was them laughing at me and saying no.
"Um… Get in my car, Oliver," Mila told me when we arrived.
Neither Grace nor Sarah had a problem with it, and neither did I. I sat on the copilot seat and waited for Mila to be ready. Again, silence for the most part until we were well on our way and Mila couldn't take it anymore.
"I… I got a little ahead of myself," she said with a nervous chuckle. "But you really should've picked a better place! We really can't talk about this in the open!" She laughed as she scolded me. It put me at ease.
"Sorry. I needed to get it out."
"Clearly." She giggled. "Sorry we're being weird, but you didn't ask an easy question."
"I… I know."
Mila had a smile on her face all the way to our destination: Grace's home near the outskirts of town. Not as far as Sarah's home, but still far.
The house was a single story tall, but pretty wide. It had a beautiful stone front and a red tiled roof. A large, well cared for front garden, too, with flowers of many colors, trimmed grass and stone paths to the garage and the front entrance.
The girls parked their cars and we all gathered at the front door. And as she searched for her keys in her bag, Grace explained, "My dad's out of town. He'll be back tomorrow."
"Your maid? The gardener?" Sarah asked.
"Gone for the day."
So it really was only her and her dad living here. Sounded a little lonely.
Grace led us into the house and directly to her bedroom. No time for a tour. I should've been more nervous to be in Grace's room all of a sudden, but, well…
Grace's room was like I'd seen in the pictures. Copious amounts of stuffed animals filled shelves and the large bed. There was a vanity desk with creams and makeup. There was also a larger desk with a laptop, pencil cases and some of our school textbooks on it. Something that impressed me was the half-open door revealing a large, walk-in closet.
The girls all sat on Grace's bed, leaving me her desk chair to sit on. I sat across from them, and now that we were all settled, Sarah spoke.
"So… You were saying?"
I shook my head. "I know you heard me."
Sarah chuckled. "Fair. We kept you waiting long enough."
"Yes, and it's dumb. I already gave my answer. It's not changing," Mila said. She stood up, walked up to me and sweetly kissed my lips with her hands on my cheeks. "I'd love to be your girlfriend, Oliver."
Again, butterflies fluttered in my stomach and the tightening of my chest.
"R-Really?"
"Really. I don't need a month to know I want to spend more time with you, continue doing what we've already done and more. A week was more than enough."
I felt dizzy. And before I could even start getting used to it…
"As we were on our way here, I kept thinking that I should've given my answer immediately, too." Grace groaned. Mila moved behind me, hugged me from behind and let Grace continue. "Sorry for leaving you hanging like that, but I didn't want eyes around us."
I nodded. I really could've picked a better place.
"Still, I liked that, you know?" Grace giggled. "I wanted to say yes there and then, but I got embarrassed."
"You got embarrassed?" I asked, surprised.
"I can get embarrassed too. There were people watching and it came completely out of the blue." Grace had a giddy smile on her face. "And yet you still went and said that. How can I not say yes?" She stood up, and in the same manner as Mila, kissed me with lips only. "But you knew how I'd answer, right?"
"... I dared to hope," I admitted sheepishly.
Two for three, and while this was already an unbelievable situation, my heart wouldn't count it as a success until I had a positive third answer. And interestingly enough, Mila and Grace were looking at Sarah with the same expectant look as I was.
The blonde sighed. "You just asked three girls out at the same time, Oliver." She grinned. "You're aware of the balls that took, right?"
I chuckled. "A little."
"And you're aware of the mess you got yourself into, don't you?" Sarah stood up as well and got closer to me. Mila and Grace gave her some space. "Mila can be quite needy, Grace can be pretty demanding, and believe it or not, I can be damn clingy."
"She's not lying," Mila added with a laugh. "We'll be a handful. You ready for that?"
"I'm not backing down," I told them.
Sarah grinned. "Just testing you." She kissed me as well, tenderly and tracing a finger along my jaw. Then her lips left mine, and in a few seconds, the strange tension just… broke.
"Oh my God!" Sarah half groaned, half laughed and threw herself back on the bed, covering her face with a stuffed lion and leaving a mess of plushies. "You actually went and asked us out!"
"Sarah didn't believe you would do it," Grace giggled close to my ear and kissed my cheek. "She said you wouldn't think it was okay."
"Well… she wasn't completely wrong," I said, chuckling with a lighter feeling in my chest. "I kept telling myself that I'd go well, but I still feared the worst at every turn."
"What made you ask us all of a sudden, though?" Mila asked me, moving to sit on one of my legs. "You ran all the way to the coffee shop."
I swallowed. Admitting that I had grown scared that my indecision could have them taken away from me was too embarrassing, but I wasn't a good liar, so…
"...I wanted to show you I'm serious about you. About all three of you. Something… made me scared that I'd screw up if I let it sit forever. I never believed it was appropriate, but you… kept sending signals."
"We weren't subtle, either," Sarah said. "We were planning to ask you out in a month, but you had to come and rush it." She was trying to sound frustrated that their plan was ruined, but her smirk betrayed her.
I'd done it. I'd really gone and done it. I asked three girls to be my girlfriends at the same time, and all three said yes. But I had heard them talking about relationships before. I knew this didn't mean I 'had them'. This was only the start of… something.
Actually… What even changed with this?
