So, what card does he grab?
The Wheel of Fortune
And this one! "And, no freaking way. How do you do that?" I asked, showing her, the Wheel of Fortune card.
She began laughing. "Okay, okay. I'll tell you. See, the cards a mark on them I can see with these special contact lens."
"I knew it! The deck was marked, but how did," I paused, looking at the card. She called it before I even caused the deck.
She grabbed my hand and pressed it to her neck. Wait what? Her pulse was crazy! Like, super run levels of crazy. "My heart! I nearly had a heart attack when you threw that eight hundred dollar set of tarrot cards! But like! Wow! It was intense! Wasn't that so crazy! It was amazing!"
"I guess it... wait what! Eight hundred dollars! For.... I... I uh," I paused looking around. "Wait, your fucking with me."
"Wait, you want to fuck me? Well, Eddie, but you said you had a girlfriend, but I mean," she twirled her hair. "If you insist-"
"I.. er"
She giggled. "I'm teasing. I did pay eight hundred for them. But it is fine. I never much cared about money," she paused and grabbed my hands. "Experience has always mattered far more. I might not look it, but when I was a young girl, I wasn't the best of health. Times were real rough, and then, the first summer in what felt like a lifetime, I was the one that got the paralytic fever."
"Paralytic fever?" I asked.
"Well, don't make a girl linger on old memories. Rather, did it land? How exciting was it? When you threw the cards? You banked everything on true chance!" she asked.
"It... felt good," I paused. "Wait. Are you saying, that you actually guessed that time."
She nodded. "That's the point Eddie. I lived a life. I made mistakes, but that's how I learned. Some parts were amazing. Some parts were rough. But they were mine! If you are going to sit there, and shuffle the deck and ask a magician to live your life for you, the right magician might just do that. But well, the life your living is the life the magician decides. Is that what you want?"
I smiled. "I suppose not, I guess, I don't have a choice. I got the card you called. So I have to pick a book on my own."
She smiled. "Now which one will you pick."
"How much are they worth?" I asked.
"Not telling," she said.
"Huh?" I asked. "Oh, right. Fuck. I keep forgetting it is rude to ask that."
She shook her head. "That's not why. They are old, rare. Finding out will be an adventure. I want you to have that adventure, like I did."
"Gemma Stone. You are an interesting Lady," I said.
She stood back. These books were... weird honestly. They each had different pictures on the cover, like a bug, or fire and a heart. The weirdest names. Bee Ez Bulb? Vellus Pedis? Kyoei No Senban? That one looked like it had a cat's eye with green hair? Moorhelfer... That one... I... felt something from that one. It made me feel... interesting. The picture was... just a grassy field? Heh, kind of neat since I loved football, but I ignored it. I was looking for something for me and Chrissy. I shook my head. Mona? The picture didn't look like a girl.
Souris Triste? Hmm. It had a heart. Love? Sounded exotic. Maybe? I looked back at Gemma, hmm. I felt like it was too easy. Like, if six options stunk and one option was clearly good, why do all of that. That just last the last one. Hmm, Anya Férfi? That one perhaps looked the most expensive funny enough. Well, I had seen all seven.
"Really no obvious right answers?" I asked.
"Don't look so down. That also means there is also no wrong answers. Thats the beauty that two random beings can have in now where, playing a game of eight hundred dollar game of seventy eight card pick up," she said smiling.
Definitely crazy. But, if it was a fun story if nothing else and if one of these books were worth have as much as she alluded to. Well, then.
"I pick..."
