What's next?
The Spider Cave.
They had the wood, and enough feathers for her bed. They just needed one more thing, the spider silk.
“Come on Oak, we need to move faster if we’re going to get out of the spider cave before dark.” She said to her orc minion.
Cherry wasn’t stupid, she wasn’t going to be in a spider cave after dark. The eight-legged creeps wouldn’t leave the cave in sunlight, so you at least had a way to escape. But once it was dark, they’d hunt you to your home, and spiders held grudges.
They approached the cave. The webs in the trees gave her chills. Spiders were one of the worst enemies of fairies. Their webbing was a nightmare if it caught a fairy’s delicate wings, very few fairies could cast the fire magics that spiders hated, and fairies weren’t strong enough to swing swords and clear the webbing. But now she had Oak, and with a big orc taking the lead, and the new spells she chose after completing that quest, Cherry hoped they would be fine.
“Go in Oak, remember we need to find egg sacks to get the good silk, you can just clear the rest.”
The orc picked up a big stick and started using it to clear the webbing at the entrance of the cave. He could clear it easily, it would have taken a squad of fairies to clear that webbing. He just poked it with a stick and pulled it down.
He cleared a few more webs before their presence was noticed and the first few spiders came out to fight them. She heard their scratchy whispers threatening and challenging them. Oak drew his axe and took a heavy swing at the first one, doing significant damage. Cherry summoned her vines to trap a different one so it couldn’t flank Oak, and she used the improved control she had now to try and attack the spider’s eyes. One large vine with a strange rounded tip shot up and started poking at the spider’s eyes, eventually hitting one and popping it with an audible squish. It didn’t stop there, it stabbed in and out, attacking the same socket over and over.
“Oh no, that’s not. . .” Cherry was mortified, her vines weren’t attacking the spider, it looked like they were trying to mate with its face.
I really need to read that description again. She thought to herself. But it would have to wait, the spider was struggling to get free, Fortunately the spiders at the entrance were low level. Her vines would hold the creature for a long time.
She looked to Oak, he had killed the first spider but was struggling with the second, he looked wrong as well, that wasn’t his normal shade of green.
“Oh shit, he’s poisoned.” She yelped out loud, and quickly cast a fairy blessing on her plodding meat shield, cleansing the poison and granting him resistance to poison for the near future.
Her split focus nearly allowed the spider she was currently eye-fucking with her vines to escape, but the tangle held. She looked back just in time to see the thrusting vine pull back and shoot a milky fluid all over the Spider’s head. It was ridiculous.
“Ahaaahaaha!” She laughed, pointing at the spider. “Get fucked, loser!”
It quickly wiped the substance off its remaining eyes, then focused its attention on her.
“Hey now, don’t look at me.” Cherry quickly flew the small distance to get out of the cave and into the sunlight. The spider didn't follow her out of the cave. It stopped just before the light and stared at her. She didn’t like the way the spider looked at her, how it skittered around the edges of shadow, trying to get closer to her without entering the daylight. Her eyes locked with the Spider’s. Its stare didn’t feel hostile, but. . . ugh. She wouldn’t even think about what she saw, what she felt in those eyes. The whispers from that spider changed as well, calling to her, begging her to come out of the light, meet it in the darkness of its cave. She felt she would vomit.
Her revulsion was interrupted by Oak’s axe severing the Spider’s head in one swing. The offending creature was dead, but she couldn’t help but feel creeped out. The initial threats resolved she quickly called up her skill list to re-read her new abilities.
Penetrating Vines – Your summoned vines can now engage in explicit actions with mobs and players, and can charm with their excretions.
“THE FUCK!” Cherry yelled, how was that supposed to help her fight? She thought penetrating meant stabbing, not. . . well, not THAT. It did explain the spider's changed behavior and whispers though, she had charmed it. She remembered something else new that mentioned charm. Cherry called up her information and scrolled through the new abilities she gained from incapacitating the red-haired paladin.
Unreal Beauty – As a lust fairy, your charm ability can seduce actively hostile mobs. Charmed explicit enemies will incapacitate and use explicit actions instead of dealing fatal damage.
The fuck? So that spider wouldn’t have attacked her, it would have. . . Cherry felt her cheeks get hot. She didn’t know if dying to spiders would be better or worse than. . . well. . . the alternative.
As much as she hated the idea, she was going to have to actually read through her abilities properly when this was over. She looked back into the cave, Oak was fighting again, and his health was falling low. She knew she had a heal somewhere. A better heal was one of the reasons she took the new option.
Lust for life – Your charming kiss now heals when used on allied creatures. Explicit actions now greatly increase health regeneration of allies.
No, no, no, no, no. She was starting to regret this new path, she got so excited with the thought of stabby vines and healing that she didn’t read any of the explanation. Now she could heal Oak, but she would need to DO things to him to heal him. Her cheeks felt even hotter than before. She needed a bed, she wasn’t going to sleep on stone again, and while sleeping on Oak’s chest had been warm and more pleasant than she expected, she wanted a real bed. She deserved a real bed. Damnit, she was going to get herself a real bed, no matter what she had to do, no matter how awkward it might be.
Cherry flew into the cave, Oak had cleared a good distance into the cave, but he was fighting several spiders now, and while her blessing was protecting him from poison, he was still getting bit. Cherry sighed, she needed to act, Oak wouldn’t last long. She summoned her vines to wrap up one of the spiders while Oak swung at another. The eye-fucking vine had done decently before, so she commanded her vines and flew on to Oak, trying not to think too much about what was happening to the bound spider. When she got to Oak his health was slipping low.
She needed a bed. Oak needed healed. The choice was obvious. Yet Cherry hovered, frozen in mid-air, while her pale blue skin turned increasingly pink. She watched him swing his axe, watched the spiders dodge and counter attack. They were biting her Oak, soon he'd respawn, and they wouldn't have the silk they needed. And yet, Cherry hovered, unable to move.
Oak stumbled, he was slow to get up, the pair of spiders he was facing moved to flank him. Cherry snapped out of her stupor. She wouldn't let these ugly, shit-brained spiders stop her from getting a proper bed. She wouldn't let whatever bitter, snacker-loving god that tricked her into becoming a lust fairy stop her either. She was Cherry, the once and future ruler of the glade and she was damn well going to get her fucking bed. Even if it meant. . .
Cherry flew at Oak, determined to heal him, desperately hoping her kiss would be enough. She flew to him as he fought, landed on his back. She flinched, he smelled like an orc, a big dumb orc covered in nasty spider guts and orc sweat. She swallowed her pride, leaned forward and kissed the back of his neck.
