The Red Threat in a Pink World

Chapter 16 by Tobias1999

Three months had passed. The old university laboratory, once a dusty tomb of forgotten academia, was now the chaotic, beating heart of King David's new ambition. It was Annie's domain. The central space was dominated by the portal frame, a massive ring of shimmering alloys and humming energy coils that looked like a piece of abstract art designed by a horny engineer. Wires thicker than Annie's wrist snaked across the floor, connected to banks of servers whose status lights blinked in a hypnotic rhythm.

Her "staff" was a source of constant, low-grade frustration. They were a dozen of the "smartest" bimbos the kingdom had to offer, handpicked by David. They were dressed in a parody of lab coats—tiny white dresses unbuttoned to their navels, paired with white thigh-high stockings and stiletto heels. Their job was to follow Annie's meticulously written instructions, which they did with an enthusiasm that far outstripped their comprehension.

"Like, okay Annie!" chirped Bambi, her lead technician, her blonde pigtails bobbing as she stared at a complex schematic. "So I just like, connect the red wirey-thingie to the blue shiny-thingie? And then this whole room goes all whooosh?" She made a vague explosion gesture with her hands, nearly knocking over a delicate calibration tool.

"No, Bambi," Annie said, pinching the bridge of her nose. "For the fifth time, you connect the red tertiary conduit to the blue primary capacitor. Then you initialize the diagnostic sequence. No 'whooosh'." She sighed, turning back to her own console. It was like trying to build a nuclear reactor with a team of horny, easily distracted golden retrievers. She had to program every single step into a simplified graphical interface, turning complex quantum physics into a game of "match the shape and press the flashing button." It was maddening, but it was working. The portal was stable, if only just.

She was so engrossed in calibrating the energy dampeners that she didn't notice one of the bimbos—a leggy Asian bimbo named Candi—approaching her, a data-slate clutched in her manicured hand.

"Um, like, hiya Annie?" Candi said hesitantly. "This like, super important messagey-thingie came for you. It's from the palace. It like, has the king's super-duper urgent stampy on it."

Annie's head snapped up. The only urgent messages that bypassed her comms system were from David himself. She took the slate, her brow furrowing. The message was encrypted, but not with the palace's standard code. It was a personal cipher she and David had established, a simple one based on a physics textbook from her world. Her fingers flew across the screen, deciphering it.

The blood drained from her face.

The message wasn't from David. It was from one of his loyalists in the intelligence division, a rare non-bimbo who saw the writing on the wall. It was a warning.

The Russian Empire, the only other major power in this bizarre world, was making its move. Their ambassador, a man known for his cunning and his disdain for the bimbo culture, had been bribing and threatening key figures in David's court. He was planning a coup. During the upcoming "Annual Titillation Festival," a week-long celebration that would see the entire palace guard and court distracted by debauchery, the ambassador's forces would strike. They would seize David, depose him, and install his own weak-willed, pliable cousin as a puppet-king. The Russians would effectively own the kingdom, its resources, and its... people.

Annie's mind raced. David was arrogant, but he wasn't a fool. He had to know something was amiss. But this message suggested he was underestimating the speed and scale of the betrayal. If the coup succeeded, her deal was void. Her power, her protection, her entire existence in this world would be at the mercy of the Russians. And Nikki... they would use the princess as a pawn, a political tool to be married off or worse. A cold, protective fury ignited in her gut.

"Bambi," she said, her voice sharp and clear, cutting through the bimbos' vapid chatter. "Stop what you're doing. All of you, gather 'round."

The dozen bimbo technicians scrambled to form a loose circle around her, their expressions a mixture of confusion and excitement, as if she were about to announce a surprise shoe sale.

"Listen to me very, very carefully," Annie said, looking each of them in the eye. "We are going to play a new game. It's called 'Secret Super Spies'." She paused, letting the ridiculous name sink in. "The bad guys are trying to hurt King David and Princess Nikki."

A collective gasp went through the room. Hurting the king and the princess was the ultimate taboo, even for their simple minds.

"We need to stop them," Annie continued, tapping commands into her console, bringing up the palace's security schematics. "Bambi, I need you to take your team and reroute the power conduits. We're going to overload the lighting circuits in the ambassador's wing. I want it dark and confusing when the festival starts."

"Like, dark and confusing? Ooh, I like totes know how to do that!" Bambi squealed.

"Candi, you and I are going to the palace armory. We're going to 'upgrade' the guards' batons with a little surprise from my lab." She patted a case containing a dozen prototype sonic stunners. They were non-lethal but would incapacitate a bimbo for hours.

As she issued her orders, transforming her incompetent staff into a makeshift special forces unit, Annie felt a familiar thrill. This was her element. Not science, not engineering, but strategy. Outthinking an opponent, turning their weaknesses against them, and fighting to protect what was hers. She looked at the portal, the machine that had brought her here. It was a symbol of chaos and displacement. But now, she would use the chaos. She would fight fire with fire, and in this pink, ridiculous world, she would be the most dangerous weapon of all.
