At The Lawyers
The Initial Meeting
Foolishly I went up to bed and spent the night tossing and turning. I swore and got out of bed a little after five AM. I showered, dried myself, picked out my best suit for my appointment and went down to get a cup of coffee. After watching the two thirds of the morning breakfast news show, I collected my gear and started for the lawyer’s office.
Once again I was distracted enough that I failed to notice the gate open and the pick-up truck came charging out of it. The only difference, this time instead of just tossing myself out of its way, I managed to get a hold of a fair size rock and threw it at the rear window of the pick-up.. I heard a smash quickly followed by the engine roar as the pick-up truck barrelled down the street.
I sat there and made up my mind that I was going to have it out face to face with the fucking moron, tonight immediately when i got back home. Getting up, I went to the bus stop and caught the bus to take me to the downtown hub. From there it was a short ride on a crosstown bus to the lawyer’s office. A check of my watch showed me that I was still half an hour before the appointment time.
So I went to a coffee shop and got a double double coffee and a sour dough donut. I downed both then returned to the lawyer’s office but this time I went in. Already in the office was an old grey haired secretary who looked up at me when I entered. The only other person in the waiting room was a blonde in a gray dress that hugged her curves. And trust me she had curves that would be worth hugging.

She was standing and appeared to be nervous, her right hand was covering her waist, her left hand was up by her chin with her middle finger between her lips. Then she spoke, “Lawyers, I don’t know why everyone has to deal with them sooner or later!” She turned her back on me, “Just once, I would love for them to say we can tell you over the phone or that they will come to you!”
Then the interior office door opened, “Miss Walton, Mr. Collins, won’t you come on in and we can getting down to the final request of Mr. Caruthers!”
