The Fall of the Pawns
Blue sparks of electromagnetic energy were still crackling across the wreckage of the fallen automatons when the metallic sound of heavy footsteps echoed through the underground lab.
"Damn it... I told Odette those two-bit scientists were a waste of time and budget," drawled a dual-toned voice, heavy with a poisonous cynicism that cut through the stifling air.
Two figures emerged from the shadows of the laboratory's antechamber. On the left, wearing a tailored white suit, stood Two-Face. Her face was a study in bifurcation. With her right hand, she casually twirled a classic silver coin, marked on both sides.

Walking beside her was a woman with a feline bearing and a gaze as sharp as crystal. She wore a dark leather trench coat with silver accents, and her slender fingers rested lightly on the trigger of a custom-made compact submachine gun. It was Sasha Bordeaux—or rather, the high-value chess piece Odette kept in the shadows—a lethal strategist who had traded her former allegiances for a lucrative yet stifling alliance with Odette.

"Well, well... Look who’s here: Batwoman’s little prodigy and the Tower’s pet hacker." Two-Face grinned, baring his teeth as he looked at Daria and Barbara. She paused, holding the coin up between two fingers. "Let’s see what fate thinks about you crashing our party. Heads, and you leave here on stretchers. Tails, and we carve a new smile onto each of your faces."
Two-Face tossed the coin high into the air with a flick of his thumb.
Daria didn't even blink. As the silver coin spun in the air, catching the gleam of the emergency lights, Michael's daughter vanished from sight. "The villain," Daria murmured—her voice seeming to come directly from inside Two-Face's mind, echoing coldly right beside his left ear.
Attacking with the speed of a viper, Daria closed the distance in the blink of an eye. Two-Face barely had time to raise his gun before she delivered a precise kick to the side of Dent's knee, bringing him down. At the same instant, she drove a high-voltage discharge from her combat staff straight into the former district attorney.
He collapsed, unconscious. His coin clinked against the metal floor, spinning across its surface before finally coming to a stop... with the scarred gray side facing up.
"Predictable," Daria said, adjusting her collar.
Meanwhile, chaos erupted on the other side of the room.
Sasha Bordeaux didn't hesitate. The instant the coin went into the air, she raised her submachine gun and unleashed a suppressed burst of fire at Barbara.
"Watch out!" Barbara shouted, diving sideways and rolling over a metal workbench as bullets shattered formaldehyde jars and tore through monitors.
Sparks showered down on Barbara’s shoulders; she quickly retaliated by firing pulse darts from her tactical gauntlet. Sasha moved with acrobatic agility, dodging the darts with the reflexes of an elite former agent, vaulting over an operating table and launching a concussion grenade straight at the hacker.
"You're a good girl," Sasha hissed, landing in a crouch and drawing a high-durability tactical blade with her other hand. "But that won't save you."
Barbara dodged the shockwave, the air knocked from her lungs, but her nimble fingers had already keyed in the final command on her wrist terminal. "Maybe not... but the environment around you certainly is," Barbara retorted with a defiant smile.
With a digital snap of her fingers, the exhaust system and liquid nitrogen tanks in Dr. Horror’s lab—he was still groaning on the floor, pinned by energy restraints—simultaneously opened their valves. A dense, white, and bitterly cold mist flooded the space in seconds, reducing visibility to zero and freezing the metal floor.
Sasha lost her balance for a split second as she stepped onto the newly formed sheet of ice. That was exactly the moment Daria needed.
Talia al Ghul’s daughter emerged from the white mist like a vengeful ghost. With a fluid motion, Daria struck Sasha’s wrist with the base of her baton, knocking the weapon from her hand with such force that the metal pistol flew across the room and slammed against the far wall. Before Sasha could react with her blade, Daria spun and delivered a ruthless sweep-kick, followed by a perfectly executed armbar that pinned the mercenary against the frozen floor.
The electrified tip of Daria’s baton stopped less than a centimeter from Sasha’s throat.
"Tell your feathered mistress," Daria whispered, her eyes glowing an icy green in the dim light, "that her empire already has an expiration date. And it expires today."
Sasha took a deep breath, trying to resist the pressure on her arm, but the strength and technique were absolute. She gritted her teeth... acknowledging tactical defeat.
On the other side of the room, Dr. Horror groaned, bound, while Two-Face slept soundly on the icy floor, surrounded by electrical sparks.
Barbara straightened up, adjusting her utility belt and taking a deep breath to calm her adrenaline. She looked at Daria, who was picking up her baton with complete indifference, as if she had just crushed a pesky insect.
"Area clear," Barbara stated, looking at the central monitors that now displayed the direct access route to Odette's office at the top of the harbor tower. "The path to the Queen of Crime is open."
