The Cursed Dorm Room

In 1971, the Vietnam War was raging, eighteen year olds could finally vote and several women's-only colleges were opening their doors to male students and going co-educational. One such university was Valley-Trinity College, which had made the decision due to declining admission rates, with many of their prospective students choosing to join other co-educational universities, namely the ones that had previously been only for male students.

But some on campus didn't take kindly to the idea of having to share their space with men, particularly a small sect of girls from the Gamma Alpha Lambda sorority, who had protested their hearts out, only for the school to ignore their pleas and demands. Not known for giving up easily, a few of their number then turned from civil disobedience to the dark arts. Melanie Damon, resident Wiccan, used a spell book to place a curse on the dorm room of the first ever male student, it being a novelty, so it was public knowledge.

And it worked, upon entering the room for the first time, Alvin Carter became Elsie Connors, although only Melanie was aware of the changes. Unfortunately, the march of progress and time are hard to keep up with, so Melanie and the Gamma Gals had to accept their new male counterparts. But with all the chaos of keeping up your grades, the rigors of Greek Life, and the general unrest in the world, some things fall to the wayside, and Melanie never bothered to remove the curse, and truthfully, forgot about it once she graduated.

Over the next fifty some-odd years, many students have occupied that single room, some men and some women, for the women, they never notice anything amiss, but the boys are always transformed. But even magic spells feel the passage of time, and it became less immediate, originally able to transform their resident immediately after entering, by 2024, it takes nearly an entire semester. Usually they never notice anything and leave, never remembering who they once were, but sometimes, students have special awareness, but are still unable to undo what has already been set in motion.
