Chapter 6

What does Velma inspect first?
The Book
Velma walked over to the Book that was on the wooden stand, her hips swaying a more exaggerated way than she normally did. She noted it but it didn't feel weird or off putting at all. She wondered how much she had changed for this body.
Stepping up to the book, she cracked it open hoping to get some answers. Sadly there wasn't anything inside. Bummer.
"What sort of person puts a book down like this and simply leaves it blank?" Velma muttered as she sighed. She flipped through it wondering if there was anything in any of the pages. She felt something inside her..., a deep pulse that shook her core.
The pages flashed with bright purple runes, reflecting in her glasses. These weren't in any mortal language at least not on HER Earth. The Sleuth shouldn't be able to understand what they said or meant. The words burned at her vision as if searing directly into her mind, the meanings echoing through her brain. The message carried itself into her soul.
It told her of the power of the book, the possibilities of all the imps. Of how the world inside the tome worked and how it could be expanded. Of warping and changing others into servants and followers. But it didn't speak of where the tome came from and what happened to it before finding Velma. Not a word of how the tomes came to be, only that others existed. And finally, it spoke of her new status of Tome Mistress, of her role and duties in the tome.
The glow faded as Velma had to process everything that just dumped into her mind. The words had faded from the tome save for at the very front of the book. Velma didn't even realize the pages at turned back there. Must have happened during the glow and info... upload? Yes that seemed to be the best way to describe it. Blinking the stars away Velma inspected the pages.
What was there was a very highly detailed info listing of well..., herself. Almost like an entry in an encyclopedia. A colored reference picture of her front, side and rear, all her likes and dislikes, history, positions..., wait...
"....," Velma took a sharp intake of air through her nose, "Well. Now. It only makes sense. While it uploaded all that Imp info to me, it might have downloaded everything about me as well." She looked over her entry a bit more, "Could have at least spelled things right."
To her semi amazement, the words started to fix themselves before her eyes. Letters shuffling around or outright erasing themselves. Either her coma was maybe getting worse or there was something to this whole magic thing. Pleased with the changes or at least enough to let it slide, she turned to the rest of the room.
The bed was of course, just a bed. Though designed and enchanted to never break(Unless that was a kink) and would repair itself. Door would lead to a living room like area. Rather she made her way to the Wardrobe, knowing it would have all manner of clothes inside, from covering to kink but she didn't really feel like wearing much right now.
She simply threw on long socks, and a shorter skirt that threatened to expose her lower body if she moved just wrong, though she still put on panties. She still put on a sweater but it was more a low cut one that didn't cover her shoulders, making it look like a very enticing or lewd version of herself. She was glad though she could get them on over her new figure and additions. The wings and talons didn't rip or get in the way. Perhaps it just 'magiced' onto her body.
"Well... at least I'm clothed..., enough." Velma thought as she went out to the living room.
The living area was a two level area, looking like a mix of rustic old manner with new decor. The bedroom door exited onto the raised part, with some stairs right next to her. Off in front of her it looked more like some sort of office or study. A few bookshelves were around along with a desk next to it. The book and stand were next to the desk there too as if to mock her. Down a short stair case was the living area with a large table and several beanbag chairs. A flat TV was on an entertainment center but didn't seem powered up. Several windows were scattered around but there wasn't anything outside. It was just a dim white color, like someone put up a sheet of colored cardboard in front of the window. Whatever it was, the color emitted a soft glow of the same tint.
"Reminds me of light bulbs... or some of those glowing paints." Velma thought as she took a seat on the edge of the desk. It felt more... right to do this, at least for now. Besides she didn't want to stand right now anyway.
So here she was, an Imp now. And a Mistress one that at that who was able to command the tome she was in, weak as her ability was. Now it was just a manner of what to do. Velma focused for a moment, trying to see if she could well..., 'see' out of the book. The window behind the desk flashed a different color and caused her to turn. She still couldn't see outside the window, though she was pretty sure there wasn't anything 'outside'. Instead the window displayed a... library? Velma was looking at a aisle in the library she was just in. It looked like the picture was being displayed from a book, given that it looked like she was staring out from a shelf.
"Hmmm I wonder if I can...," Velma said as she held up a hand, her fingers glowing on reflex. The picture changed perspective, showing her staring at the book now as if she was standing in front of the shelf unit. "Excellent... I wonder if..." Velma muttered.
Sadly her ability to look around was limited and it was extremely jarring to 'jump' from perspective to perspective. It seemed she could only move based on what she could see in the window. Velma usually wasn't one to loose her temper but this was just getting to be the LAST nerve. "OF ALL THE STUPID THINGS WHY CAN'T YOU AT LEAST MAGIC UP USER INTERFACE!!!" she cried, slamming her glowing fists against the window. The blow echoed throughout the room as with the sound of an old retro TV, the window display clicked 'off', leaving Velma in the dark once more.
She was about to scream her frustrations out when another sound behind her clued her in. The sound of a computer tower powering up. She turned and there on the desk was a tower and paired screen, along with a keyboard and mouse. Velma hesistently approuched it before sitting down and pulling the keyboard up close to herself, another hand gripping the mouse. There was no net and only a few preset 'games' and apps on it. Like Minesweeper but you had to trigger the mines... and the mines were imps. The Apps were also general like a photo album and writing app but the 'IMPVIEWU' one was a bit more interesting. Clicking it opened up a three D viewing area of a small 'globe' of vision centered around a key point, everything outside was either just black or fuzzy shapes. Inside the sphere there was simply two separate aisles of bookshelves.
"Hmmm. I see." Velma muttered as she leaned back into the rather comfy leather chair, "As Tome Mistress the book must have reacted to my frustrations and ripped from my mind something more suitable to my level of experience." She paused to push her glasses up, "This must be a interactive representation of what the Tome can 'sense' around it in the outside world." That was her leading theory at least.
And a few clicks and pans later showed it to be right. Everything in the displayed area lined up with what she had seen from the window. All the books were the same alignment and even same titles. At least this was easier than trying to view based off shifting points of view.
"....I don't suppose you'd be willing to let me go back to normal." Velma mused. For some reason she got the impression that the book or magic around her just shook it's 'head' for lack of a better term.
"Well at least I know where I am." Velma thought as she flicked the 3d model around some more. Now it was just what to do.
Her friends would find her soon enough. Hopefully, they could go a bit before noticing one of their number was gone but not like HOURS long. Or maybe the Librarian could come by. Either way it would be just the same; make some sort of noise or even 'warp' on front of them to get attention and then convince them to find a way to break this curse.
The riskier option was to just warp herself TO her friends but from what the book had told her, that was risky.
Wait or Jump seemed to be her only real options though.
So..., Wait or Jump?
