The Anthropologist Journal II

As the use of magick spread itself across the world a more formal magick education system was called for so a few elves of the coordination group reached out to their Waking Ground and tracked down a few magick mentors willing to found a college to teach the proper handling of magick. They started with a foundation course consisting of basic defensive, offensive and healing spells drawn from the different magick colleges. A magick equivalent of your average everyday self-defense and first aid classes. In time this will become known as Magick 101,Magick 102 and Magick 103 a magick curriculum that is a compulsory part of every curriculum for advanced learning institutions such as a university, or as a separate post-high school curriculum for those that don’t take up advanced studies.

To cite Prof Leta Mercia:
Each student will choose one of the four elemental colleges to receive initial training in (Magick 101). Once they reach their first Magick level they will proceed to learn basic healing (Magick 102). Once they reach their second Magick level they will proceed to learn basic protection spells. (Magick 103).
There is a third Magick level but that’s beyond the scope of this curriculum and is meant for those who want to deepen their knowledge of magick and really grow as a magick-user.

Simply put Magick is the manipulation of mana. Each body can contain a certain amount of mana.
This mana can be used to fuel spells. How efficient one is in using mana to fuel spells determines how powerful a magic-user one is. This efficiency depends on a number of things. Some are genetic others can be trained. Firstly the body size: a bigger body can potentially contain more mana than a smaller body. This is however offset by racial genetics. Some races are born with a more or less efficient mana storage mechanism than others. On top of this are the differences between individuals. Secondly cybernetic implants, cybernetic implants decrease the mana storage capability and lower the efficiency of using mana. And thirdly training, each Magick level augments the mana storage and usage efficiency.
As mana replenishment is a natural mechanism all of the above will also have their effect here.

There are few who take Earth as their initial element. Most take Air or Water. Which kind of makes sense since earth is solid, thus more difficult to manipulate than the lighter air or the changeable water. Fire is mostly chosen by those that are already feisty by themselves.

What many students also seem to forget is that casting spells takes effort and thus puts a strain on the body and so adds to the fatigue. This also means it is important to rest after casting one or more spells.

Furthermore for those who are wondering Divination is not considered Magick because you're observing and not manipulating mana. Although some find this a semantic discussion.
